Growing up Great

Matthew 6:27–31 KJV 1900
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Growth is
++Not a destination
++A natural process
++In the hands of God
1 Corinthians 3:6–9 KJV 1900
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

The text speaks of thing that impact Spiritual Growth

They are
++Planters
++Water
++God
Growth is a natural process
++All things grow in some way
Things will grow all by themselves because from the beginning growth was place in all things by nature.
Growth is a natural process
All things grow in some way
++Spiritual Growth is not about getting bigger

Spiritual Growth is about growing the right way.

Growth is a natural process
All things grow in some way
Spiritual Growth is not about getting bigger
++Spiritual Growth is about growing right
The children of Israel were chosen by God before they were enslaved by Egypt.
He promised to be their God and They would be his people.
Ephesians 1:4–6 KJV 1900
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
He has chosen us
++To be in him
++Before the foundation of the world
Being Chosen
++Doesn’t indicate perfection
++Doesn’t mean we have all the answers
++Doesn’t mean we do all things right
++Provides an opportunity
Ecclesiastes 9:11 KJV 1900
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Though Israel was chosen. They had a lot to learn.

In the same way, Our experiences with God in life would form a basic construct for what it looks like to be a child of God.
It will define what it means to be chosen by Him.
Experience would help them to understand God's tough love.
They experience blessing, famine, abundant supply.
They people rose to power politically and were acquainted with slavery. That bandage would last about 400 years. This had
had become the norm of life.
Through each generation a remnant would recall the promise of God to their father Abraham:
Genesis 22:17–18 KJV 1900
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
That in blessing … obeyed my voice.
After 400 years God allows them to experience his power to deliver. God would undermine all the God's of Egypt and His supremacy would be known through the known world.

Yet though delivered from Egypt, they still had a lot to learn.

The needed to
++Know that God exist is only the beginning.
++Recognize His power
++Honor His position as God
They still had a lot to learn.
What was the mechanism they had to learn what they need to know.
++The word of God.
++The way they should walk
++The work that they should do
Exodus 18:20–21 KJV 1900
20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do. 21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

God commands Moses to teach his people.

He was not
++A Therapist
++A Counselor
Up to this point Moses spent the vast majority of his time responding to the needs of the people. He answered their questions.
Though he was the Leader. The conversations were being directed by the people.
The Conversation
++The people’s needs
++The peoples problems and issues.

There is a difference in responding to needs and teaching.

There will always be
Needs
Problems
Issues

Moses had a word from the Lord

What he had would lay the foundation of what his followers would be.
It was
++Revelation
++Instructions
++Information from God.

The Background

Exodus 3:1–6 KJV 1900
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Moses' encounter with God has given him a distinct and different understanding of Who God is. He had received a revelation of God. His person, activity and will. It is impossible to teach about God fully without knowing knowing him on a different level than those that you teach. This doesn't mean Moses was better or more privileged that others. He just had a different experience. Just like us.
Know God from a viewpoint
++Heals
++Comforts
++Forgives
++Provides
++Etc.

No one has the same experience

Know one will have it all.
Adam heard the instructions from God before His wife was ever created. There is no record of God having to repeat this command to Eve, yet she declares what God has said to the serpent.
There is know doubt that Adam and his wife had a relationship with God , but there experience was different.
Adam was formed from the dusk while his wife was created from a rib from Adam.
Adam was made complete.
++He had to suffer a loss so the his wife could be made.
++He was made incomplete so that his wife could be made complete.
