Wednesday Devotion 7-22-20 6 Minutes
Good evening everyone,,, it's time for our Wednesday evening devotion.
I saw a Facebook post sometime last week that showed a graph that was supposed to illustrate the way that we see sin as human beings compared to the second graph that showed God's view of sin.
Maybe some of you seen it.
The first graph,,, which represented our view of sins,,, showed some of the sins ranked high,,, some low,,, and other sins were shown at all different levels,,, as you went across the graph.
The second graph,,, that you seen as you scrolled down,,, which represented God's view of sins,,, were all the same height,,, and it shows that all sins are equal in God's eyes.
What they were trying to do was to show that it doesn't matter what sin it is,,, or how bad it is,,, sin is still sin.
We tend to rank a sin,,, for example,,, stealing bread to feed my family is not as bad as robbing a bank,,, even though they could both be done for the same reasons.
The stealing of a loaf of bread would be a lot easier to get out of from a human standpoint as far as punishment goes,,, but it’s still taking something that we shouldn’t.
This ranking that we give sins doesn't change the fact that it's still sin!
It only changes our perception of the sin,,, in other words,,, our thoughts as to how bad of a sin that was,,, maybe not even realizing that we are comparing it to our sin and thinking,,, wow that's much worse than mine,,, or vice versa!
Billy Graham gave his definition of sin this way,,,
"A sin is any thought or action that falls short of God’s will. God is perfect, and anything we do that falls short of His perfection is sin."
He used this illustration,,,
He tells us that sin is like an archer who misses the target. He draws back his bow and sends the arrow on its way—but instead of hitting the bull’s-eye, it veers off course and misses the mark.
The arrow may only miss it a little bit or it may miss it a great deal—but the result is the same: The arrow doesn’t land where it is supposed to.
The same is true of sin.
God’s will is like the center of that target—and when we sin, we fall short of His will or miss the mark.
And this is something we do every day; as the Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
Even when we aren’t aware of it, we commit sin by the things we do (or fail to do), or by the way we think.
This is why we need Christ, for only He can forgive us all our sins, and only He can help us live the way we should.
We can’t forgive ourselves,,, we can’t change our hearts,,, and we can’t make ourselves better in God’s eyes.
These last 3 Sundays we have been studying Romans and this shows us again why we need the Holy Spirit.
It's only through God's help that we are able to change and make ourselves better in His eyes!
We need to remember that just because we go to church every Sunday,,, maybe even read our Bible regularly,,, if we don't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ like we should,,, then we are just as guilty as any murderer in the country!
It's possible that many that attend church each Sunday,,, that look down on so many people,,, will spend eternity in hell unless they realize that they need that relationship and repent.
What I'm trying to say is that when it comes time for judgement,,, God isn't going to have a list of your sins and rank them one by one until you make the cut-off and you get into heaven,,, or He says most of those weren't that bad come on in,,, or you have just sinned to many times or they were just too bad,,, so you must go to hell,,, No!
The only thing that will save you is your relationship with Jesus Christ that you have right now while you are here on earth today!
It won't matter how bad your sins were if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior because He has paid for all of them in full!
So be sure that you have made that choice today and Jesus Christ is your Savior,,, because as that graph shows,,, all sin is sin,,, in God's eyes!
