Intro

Why did God save you? In fact, Why did God save anyone? What was his purpose in reconciling wretched sinners to himself through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

I think for many Christians the answer they have been told all their life is that the reason God saved us is so that we could have a personal relationship with him.

And that’s true. But if we were really honest most of us don’t actually know what that means or why that is such a big deal in the first place.

Because here’s where we’ve gotten tripped up over the years. I think that a lot of Christians implicitly believe that this relationship is primarily for God’s benefit and not our own. As if God were lonely and needed someone to talk to and that’s why he saved us.

As if our salvation is a mutually beneficial relationship where we get a little bit of forgiveness, and in return God gets a little bit of our love.

But this personal relationship that God saved us for was always meant to be for our benefit.

And when we believe that the greatest blessing of our salvation is anything other than having a personal relationship with God, we miss the whole point of salvation and the whole point of the Christian life.

What I want you to see today is that when Christ reconciled us to God and restored our access to worship him through his death on the cross, he was restoring the fundamental thing we lost because of sin.

You see, God made us to know him personally. He made us to know him and in knowing him, worship him for all that he is.

And because God made us to worship him, that means that true life, the fullness of life can only be found in having a personal relationship with God where the whole point of that relationship is not us, but is worshiping God by enjoying him for who he is.

But sadly, sin made that relationship and experiencing that fullness of life impossible. Sin placed a barrier, an infinite gulf between us and God so that instead of worshiping him living in the fullness of life, we gave our worship to idols and wasted away in spiritual death brought on by our sins.

Our sin broke the relationship that we were created for. Our sin guaranteed that we would never know God and experience the life that he wanted for us.

But as we will see in Hebrews 10:19-22, God is a God of grace. He did not leave us or forsake us but he restored our access to him in Christ. He tore down the wall of sin that stood between us, so that we could once again draw near to him and worship him with all of our life.

That is the big idea of today’s sermon.

Christ gives us the fullness of life by restoring our access to worship God.

The question I want to answer for you today is what does it mean to have a personal relationship with God? What does that relationship look like and how do we have it?

So let’s start with point number 1...

I. God Created us to Worship Him

Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places...

Here we have reached a turning point in the book of Hebrews.

Up until this point, the Author has built his book entirely around Christ being our Great High Priest.

Around Christ becoming a man and suffering temptation in every way that we do, yet never sinning.

So that when he died on the cross to offer his life as a sacrifice, he offered a sacrifice that was pure and holy like that of a lamb without blemish or spot (1 Peter 1:19).

A sacrifice that was acceptable to God to pay for the wages of our sins, which is death.

And because Christ’s death paid the punishment that our sin deserved, everyone that puts their faith in him is now forgiven and receives the gift of eternal life.

But now the author is getting into what that means for us. He’s starting to move on from the theology of Christ as our Great High Priest, to the practical implications of Christ as our Great High Priest.

And in verses 19-21 he summarizes everything he has been saying for the past 10 chapters. He summarizes the theology of Christ as our Great High Priest to show us the reason why we need obey what he is about to say in the rest of the book.

And so what I wanted to do this week was to focus on this summary and to really zoom in on exactly what Christ has accomplished for us so that when we go on to talk about we live these things out, we have in mind God’s amazing grace which motivates and empowers our obedience to him.

And the Author tells us the main thing that Christ accomplished as our Great High Priest was that he restored our access to God.

That’s why it says we have confidence to enter the holy places.

Now that’s not the first time the author has used that phrase, holy places. He’s used it several times to refer to the holy of holies. Both the Heavenly holy of holies where God’s presence dwells and the earthly copy or shadow of the holy of holies in the Tabernacle.

And if you’ll remember, the Author has been comparing the atonement Christ made in the heavenly holy places to the atonement the earthly high priests offered on the Day of Atonement.

On that day, the high priest would make sacrifices and carry blood into the the holy of holies, the holy places, where God’s presence dwelt in the midst of his people under the old covenant.

And he would use the blood of these sacrifices to make atonement for Israel’s sin.

But all of this wasn’t actually able to save anyone because it was just a shadow or a copy of what Christ would ultimately do.

Hebrews 10:4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

But Christ as our Great High Priest, made true atonement in the true true holy places by offering his life as the true sacrifice.

Hebrews 9:12; 24 He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption...For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.

So when Christ entered into the holy places it was for the fullness of salvation. All of our sins were fully paid for in his death.

And in verse 24 the Author tells us that these true holy places refer to heaven itself, the very presence of God. That after dying on the cross, Christ rose again and went into heaven to intercede before the Father on our behalf.

Now why does all this matter? Because go back to Hebrews 10:19. What does the Author say? He says We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus...

What does that mean? That means that you and I, and every person that has placed their faith in Jesus Christ, has confidence to enter God’s heavenly presence. To approach God and draw near to him.

In fact, that word confidence can also be translated as courage or boldness meaning that through the blood of Christ, we have the authorization from God himself to approach God and worship him.

In other words, through his sacrifice, Christ has given us free access to enter God’s heavenly presence without fear of dying for our sin.

Now you might hear that and think to yourself, “Why is that such a big deal? I mean isn’t God’s whole thing that he wants to be worshiped by his people? It seems that it would just make sense that God would invite us into his presence.”

But to understand the magnitude of what the Author just said, you need think like a 1st century Hebrew, not as a 21st century American who’s been a Christian most of their life.

During my study this week, the question that unlocked this passage for me was why was this the crowning achievement of Christ’s work as our High Priest? Why would having confidence to approach God be such a big deal to the Hebrews?

Well think about their background for just a minute. As we said, the Author used the word holy places to talk about God’s presence both in heaven where Christ made true atonement for our sins, and on earth in the holy of holies of the Tabernacle.

But under the old covenant not just anyone could enter the holy of holies. Only the high priest, as Israel’s representative, had access to enter into God’s presence.

And even he couldn’t enter in any time he wanted to. If he entered God’s presence haphazardly he would have died because his sin made him unclean and therefore unfit to stand before a holy God.

And so to enter in the holy of holies, the high priest would have to go through a number of rituals. He would have to bathe his entire body to symbolically say that his sin made him unclean and worthy of God’s wrath.

Then he would take off the high priestly garments that he normally wore, and put on a simple linen outfit. This was to remind the priest that he did not enter God’s presence arrogantly or on the basis of his status as a priest. It was only God’s grace that allowed Israel to worship him.

Then the high priest would have had to offer the best bull he could find as a sin offering. And it had to be a bull because a bull was the most prized and expensive sacrificial animal anyone could offer to God.

And then he would take the blood of the bull and go to the holy of holies. But before he could go in, he had to take a censer and fill it with coals.

Think of a hollow ball on a chain that would puff out smoke.

And he would take this censure and walk backwards into the holy of holies to fill the room with smoke to veil God’s glory so that he wouldn’t accidently look upon God and die right then and there for his sins.

After all this he would take the blood of the bull and sprinkle it on the mercy seat to make atonement for his own sins, and only then could he take take the blood of the people’s sin offering and do the same to make atonement for all of Israel.

The Big Idea here is that no one could just approach God as they wished. No one had that kind of free access to enter God’s presence and worship him. That’s why there was a veil between the holy of holies and the rest of the Tabernacle.

Our sin made a barrier between us and God. There was no longer any access for us to approach him.

But now, because of Christ and his sacrifice, the Author is telling the Hebrews, and us, you have this kind of access.

The barrier has been torn down and you are now free to draw near to God and worship him in boldness with confidence because all of your sin has been put away in Christ.

The Hebrews would have seen this and realized the magnitude of what the Author was saying. As our Great High Priest, Christ tore down the barrier of our sin that separated us from God.

Christ’s sacrifice gave us access to God. It made it possible for us to approach God and worship him just like he created us to.

Through his death, Jesus gave us the full authorization to enter the holy places. He restored the fundamental thing we lost in our sin.

I think we miss this all the time. Its so easy for us to look at sin from a completely man-centered point of view.

To take stock of what we lost in the Fall by only considering what we feel affects us most.

So we lament sin because now we die because sin brought death into the world. We lament sin because now we have to endure all kinds of evil and brokenness. Things like famine, disease, injustice, natural disasters, and war. All the things that make us long for heaven.

And I think all of those are true, and all of those things should make us long for heaven.

But they weren’t the greatest loss the day we first sinned.

Escaping those things should not be our greatest joy and greatest hope. Because escaping those things is not the greatest blessing of salvation.

Like the little idolaters we are, we are tempted to even try to make heaven all about us and push God to the fringes.

The greatest blessing of salvation is access to God himself. Its the access to have a relationship with our Creator and worship him the way he created us to.

You see, the fundamental thing we lost in sin was not life as we wished it would be. The fundamental thing we lost in sin was our access to God. The relationship that we had where we were free to draw near to him in worship and by worshiping him have the fullness of life.

Let me show you just what I mean. Turn to Genesis 3:8-10. This is right after Adam and Eve first sinned.

Genesis 3:8-10 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day,

Stop right there. What you see here is that God was with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. That’s what it means when it says he was walking in the Garden. Adam and Eve lived with God.

Imagine that. Imagine getting to walk with God in the Garden. Where all of your life, every breath you took was an opportunity to worship Him for all that he is with no weight of sin pulling you down.

To treasure him absolutely, to see and savor his glory in fullness, to enjoy him without one ounce of sin blocking the view.

If you want to know what worship is, that’s it. It is a heart felt enjoyment of God for all that he is.

That is what we were made for! To have the thirst and the longings of our soul satisfied in worshiping the Lord, and worshiping him alone.

Psalm 42:1-2 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

When shall I have access to approach God and worship him to satisfy the thirst of my soul?

In Eden, there was no thirst. We had free access to God every moment of every day. We had the fullness of life because we were living for exactly what God created us for. His glory.

But then sin happened, and the access we had to worship God and to find all our heart’s delight in our relationship to him was broken. Genesis 3:8.

Genesis 3:8 and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”

No longer was there a relationship of love and joy and celebration of all that God is. Now there was a wall. A barrier. Now there was fear and shame.

And because of their sin, God kicked Adam and Eve out of the Garden. They would no longer walk with him and worship him face to face.

In removing them from the garden, God removed their access to him. They no longer lived with God. They were no longer free to draw near to God and worship him the way they were created to. To have the deepest longings of their souls satisfied in enjoying who God is.

Because of sin that relationship was all lost.

Access to God is what we lost in the Garden. Access to God is what we needed Christ to restore.

Because that access allows a true, personal relationship with the Creator of the universe. The One who made us in his image to reflect the glory of who he is and enjoy him and magnify his worth.

But here’s where we can start going off the rails in talking about having a personal relationship with God. That idea has almost become so hyper spiritualized that many Christians don’t even know why that is such a blessing in the first place.

Why is a relationship with God the ultimate goal of Christ’s work on the cross? Its because its all about God getting the glory.

Let’s go back to Psalm 42:1-2.

Psalm 42:1-2 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

The fundamental thing you need to understand is that God created us to worship him. And that means we are only truly satisfied, that we only experience the fullness of life that God designed us for when all of our lives are given to him in worship.

Life, true life, is enjoying God for all that he is.

The worship of God is the water our souls thirst for. And all of our sin is just an attempt to satisfy that thirst with anything other than God himself.

That’s why Jeremiah 2:13 says For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

God’s talking about Israel’s idolatry and he says its like they left an oasis only to wander off into the desert with water bottles that had too many cracks to hold anything.

So Christ restoring our access to God through his life, death, and resurrection brings us the blessing of knowing God personally. And knowing God personally allows us to worship him for all that he is. To have the fullness of life that God made us for.

The goal of your Christian life is to grow in your knowledge of God and his amazing grace so that you can worship him more than you did before and have the fullness of life.

That’s why Jesus said John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

Eternal life is knowing God because when we know God personally we see his glory and respond to his glory in worship. And that worship satisfies all the deepest longings of our souls. That worship is our life.

That is why Christ died. To give us access to the holy places so that God would be worshiped by his people because God is glorified when redeemed sinners praise him for who he is and everything he’s done to save them.

I think this is the main reason why so many Christians miss out on the blessing of having a personal relationship with God.

They make it all about themselves where the main focus of all their Christian life is on them. Where all their joy is in either in how much God blesses them or in how well they perform spiritually.

So when God’s blessing isn’t evident or they start struggling with sin and feeling like failure in their faith, they start feeling alone, forsaken, and distant from God. They start feeling like there isn’t a relationship there. Like God hates them or is disappointed in them.

Most Christians miss out on the blessing of having a personal relationship with God because they don’t know what that blessing actually is.

It isn’t blessings in this material world or our own self righteousness or godliness. The blessing is God himself.

The blessing of salvation is to be able to enjoy God for who he is. The blessing of salvation is worship. It is enjoying God and delighting in him from the heart.

And that is the blessing that satisfies our souls because worship is what we were made for.

Think of it this way. When are you most satisfied in any relationship? Whether its your spouse, your children, or a friend?

Its when you are enjoying the other person! Not when you’re looking at yourself saying me me me. What am I getting out of this, what do I want?

No relationship is enjoyable, or intimate and close, when people are just navel gazing looking at themselves. But that is so often how Christians treat God. And because of that there is no joy in their Christian life.

For them the Christian life isn’t about looking to God to find all their delight. All their joy. All their life. Instead they look at their life and say this is what I’m living for, and God if you love me you’ll make it what I want.

But a true relationship with God, one that is full of blessing and joy and life, is one that is all about worshiping God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Where its all about enjoying God for who he is! Treasuring him. Delighting in him. Magnifying his worth.

That’s what you were made for.

So the question I want you to ask yourself is this. Is your relationship with God marked by worshiping him or focusing on yourself?

Do you want to experience the joy of eternal life? Then focus all of your life on Christ.

God has given you access not so you can continue living for yourself, but so you can start living solely for him, and satisfy your soul with the living water of his grace.

This is why reading the Bible and learning theology is so crucial to the life of the Christian? How else will you know God and see his glory? How else will you worship him for all that he is?

Everything Christ did. All of our salvation was to bring us back to Eden. To make a way for us to enter into the holy places.

To restore our access to worship God. For God to be our God, and for us to be his people.That is what we were made for and that is what God has been working towards all throughout human history in the covenants.

That is what God promised to Abraham. Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.

That’s what God promised Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai when he gave them the Law in the old covenant. Leviticus 26:12 And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people.

And that is what God has promised us in the New Covenant. Jeremiah 32:33 I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Do you see God’s grace in this? God did not forsake us even when we rebelled and sinned against him. Instead, God forsook his own Son on the cross. All to forgive us and reconcile us to himself so that we could return to Eden and worship him with no barrier blocking the way.

And God will bring the fullness of this salvation to us in the New Heavens and New Earth. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Why? Because God promised so in Revelation.

Revelation 21:3-4 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

God created us to have access to him. To be able to draw near and worship him for all that he is. That is the point of the Christian Life. That is what it means to have a personal relationship with God.

Do you want your best life now? Stop looking at yourself, and stop looking at the world and worship God.

Our sin had made that access impossible, but Christ, in his perfect sacrifice as our Great High Priest, reconciled us to God. He mended the broken relationship between us once and for all.

And now We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus and worship God and have the fullness of life.

And that leads us into point number two...

II. God Restores Our Access to Worship Him in Christ Alone

Hebrews 10:19-20 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh...

The only reason we can have any confidence to draw near to God and worship him is because of the blood of Jesus.

Through his blood, Jesus paid the debt we owed God for our sin. God’s Word says For the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23) and Christ died our death that we deserved on the cross.

He’s the one that suffered under God’s wrath and was forsaken so that we could be brought near through his sacrifice.

And this opened up for us a new and living way to God.

By new the author means that its a way that didn’t exist before. Animal sacrifices couldn’t do it, obeying the law couldn’t do it. The only thing that could tear down the barrier of our sin was Christ’s own blood.

It was also the living way, because it is the only way that leads to eternal life.

There is salvation in no other name but the name of Christ. Jesus said John 14:6 I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

There is only one way to know God and have eternal life and that is by putting your faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.

Being a good person won’t save you. Coming from a Christian family won’t save you. Being a part of a church won’t save you.

The only thing that will save you is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that only comes through faith in him.

Believe in Jesus. Believe that he lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose again three days later to forgive all your sins. He is the only way you can draw near to God and live with him in the coming Kingdom.

Otherwise what will Jesus say? I never knew you; I have no relationship with you. Depart from me, you workers of lawlessness (Matt. 7:23).

Jesus is the only way to the Father. The only way to salvation. Why? Because Hebrews says he is the only way through the curtain. Now what does that mean?

We need to remember the context. The Author is talking about how Christians have every confidence to enter the holy of holies. God’s heavenly presence.

In the Tabernacle, when the high priest wanted to enter the holy of holies on the Day of Atonement, he had to pass through the curtain or veil.

In Exodus 26:31-33 And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. 32 And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. 33 And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.

Again remember, this curtain was a startling picture that we were separated from God because of our sin. That we had no access to him. There was an infinite gap separating us from eternal life.

But then Hebrews says that Christ opened a way for eternal life through the curtain, that is, through his flesh.

The word flesh refers to Christ’s incarnation. That he was obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross.

And through his death, we are now invited to pass through the curtain with confidence, with no fear dying for our sin, to worship God.

And God even confirmed, loud and clear, that Jesus really did open the way through the curtain when he died on the cross, because when Jesus died, the veil in the Temple was torn in two.

Mark 15:33-34; 37-38And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”...37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. 38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

The curtain was completely torn in half. The new and living way, access to God, is open through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

There is no longer any barrier separating us from Him

Christ gives us the fullness of life by restoring our access to worship God.

We’ve seen that this reconciled relationship, this access was God’s ultimate aim in saving us because he made us to live with him and worship him for all that he is.

Then we saw how Christ is the only way to have this access. He is the only way we can be forgiven of our sin, cleansed from our iniquity, to draw near to God.

And Finally...

III. God Has Guaranteed Our Access to Worship Him Forever through Christ

Hebrews 10:21-22 ...and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.

The Author says we have a great priest over the house of God. Now why do I say that that means that God has guaranteed our access to worship him forever?

Well, earlier in the book of Hebrews, the Author said that Christ is the great high priest of the New Covenant.

Hebrews 9:15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.

The salvation Jesus gives is an eternal salvation. It is an imperishable, undefiled, unfading salvation (1 Peter 1:4).

Once you have been reconciled to God in Christ, there is nothing that can take away your salvation because every single one of your sins was fully paid for in the blood of Jesus.

That is the promise of the New Covenant. Hear how God himself said it.

Hebrews 8:10-12 I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 11  And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. 12  For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”

Christ is the mediator of the new everlasting covenant. Our access to God is secured forever in him because Hebrews has already told us, that when he entered into heaven, he sat down at the right hand of the Father.

There was no more work to be done. It is finished. Christ saved his people once and for all through his perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice.

And now he reigns as the Great High Priest over the house of God.

The house of God is his church. Jesus is the Lord of all people, but he is only the high priest of his people.

He is over all the world in authority ruling and reigning in power, but he is only over his church in salvation saving and redeeming by his grace.

And since Hebrews 7:25 says he always lives to make intercession for us, the church can have the full confidence that they will stand before the Lord in glory and hear "Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master (Matt. 25:23).”

Conclusion: Let Us Draw Near

Christ gives us the fullness of life by restoring our access to worship God.

My main goal this sermon was to help you understand why it is such a big deal that you and I have access to God through Christ.

To help you understand what it means to have a personal relationship with the God of the universe.

We were created to have this kind of fellowship with our heavenly Father.

We were made in his image to reflect his glory and character and to find all of our joy, life, and satisfaction in him. That is what worship is, and true worship is the only thing that can truly satisfy our souls.

But because of sin, that was all broken. Because of sin there was a barrier between us and God separating us from him.

All of our sin was just a cheap imitation that left us thirstier than when we first started.

We had traded the fountain of living waters for a mouth full of dry sand.

Sin took away our access to live with God, to be his people, and to worship him like he created us to.

But the glory of Christ is this. Jesus made a way. He made a new and living way to restore our access to God, to reconcile us to him so that instead of sin and death, we could have eternal life.

Yes. God saved you to make it possible for you to have a personal relationship with him. But that personal relationship means that God saved you to worship him and enjoy him for all that he’s worth.

That is our call today. How do we apply a passage that’s all about the blessing of having access to worship God through the blood of Christ? By worshiping him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.

That’s what Hebrews itself tells us to do.

Hebrews 9:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.

If Christ has given us free access to our heavenly Father, free access to draw near to him and find all of our life and joy in worshiping him, why are so many of us content to just hang back and drag our feet instead of running to him?

Why are so many of us afraid of giving him all of our life?

I mean if he really is the fountain of living waters, and if a relationship with him really is the only thing that can satisfy the deepest longings of our soul, what is keeping us from living all of our lives for him?

Doesn’t it seem so foolish to keep living for ourselves? To keep living according to our plans? To keep holding onto our sins as if maybe this time they will finally give us the fullness of life like they promised?

The Christian life, our relationship with God, is one where we are constantly learning that nothing is as good, or as true, or as wonderful as God’s glory.

Worshiping him becomes the sole desire, the sole focus, and the sole satisfaction of all our life.

And as we worship God for his glory and savor his goodness all the sins that once enslaved us don’t seem as appealing as they once did, and we are free to walk in the newness of life. We are free to walk in the fullness of life.

And all this is possible because...

Christ gives us the fullness of life by restoring our access to worship God.

Ephesians 2:1-7 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
