“night fishing and empty nets”

5th sunday after epiphany

luke 5:1-11

Introduction: Night fishing on Houghton Lake...coming home empty handed.  In many ways our lives are a reflection of what happened to Peter.

I.          Fishing at night without the Lord - Like Peter

A.        Without the Lord we work hard for empty nets.

B.        Without Him it doesn’t matter if we catch fish or not.  Spiritually are nets are empty.

C.        Third supporting detail or information for the sub-topic

II.        We Hear His Word - Like Peter

A.        We believe

B.        We listen to what He says

C.        We follow Him

III.       We find ourselves Fishing in the Light with the Lord - Like Peter

A.        With Him we have more than we could ask for - our nets are filled both physically and spiritually [t]

B.        He calls us to follow Him trusting Him for our daily bread.

            1.         Peter leaves the fish behind.  It’s no big deal.  After all he is going with Jesus who had filled the nets.

            2.         We too by faith are able to leave are material blessings behind, even leaving this life in the peace of Jesus.

Conclusion:  In Jesus we have everything.  Are nets are always full.  He takes care of us physically and spiritually
