In all the ‘I Am’ statements so far, Jesus is ultimately talking about life. The Bread, the Light, the Vine, the Shepherd, the Resurrection – they all point to life that conquers death. To eternal life. And the same goes for Jesus’ final claim this week – that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life. But the focus in this statement is on him being the Way. That he is the way to life. That he is the only way to life. And that also makes him the way to live.
