25 “And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands—
12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
To understand John 5:25, we must understand who are the DEAD, there is the human definition of death and there is bible definition of death.
Human definition of the dead mean that if a man is said to have died is that person cease to exist, that is absolutely not the definition of death, for man is created to live forever.
There are two kinds of death,
Physical Death
Spiritual Death
Physical Death
Physical Death
Physical death is separation of the body and spirit, When a man is said to have died mean his/her spirit is separated from the body, what is means is that, when one is said to have died, we carry the body to go and bury but the spirit in that body goes out to another place.
Spiritual Death
Spiritual Death
Spiritual death on the other end is, separation of human being from God, in the garden of Eden, when God told Adam not to eat the fruit of knowledge of God and bad, He added the day you eat of it, you shall surely die,
But as we read the bible, one would have thought that, when they ate the fruit, they would have fallen dead, in human thinking, you notice that when they ate the fruit they did not die as we may have thought but we see them standing, what kind of death was that then, that death is what is call spiritual death, that is separation of man from God, for that day, Adam and Eve was cast out of the presence of God.
What Is Your Life When You Are Far From God
What Is Your Life When You Are Far From God
When one is far from is a sign that he is spiritually dead, I mean if there is a distance between you and God it mean you are spiritually dead, to examine yourself just as 2 cor 13:5 says, and see where you stand with God, if you are not close to God but a distance between you and God, then am sorry to say you are spiritually dead.
How dare you that, there is a distance between you and your God, then what kind of life will you live, that’s why people are leaving in all kinds of sin, armed robbery, prostitution, all kinds of sinful attitudes,
We continue to engage in sinful acts because God is not closer to us, for the bible is clear on that, that “He who is born of God does not continue in sin 1 John 3:9
9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
Sin Separate’s Us From God
Sin Separate’s Us From God
You will notice that when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, in that they sinned against God, and because of that they were cast out of the presence of God, sin separate’s us from God the more we continue to sin, the more we are walking far away from God, because it is sin that separate’s us from God.
The GoodNews
The GoodNews
But is that all that it is, does that mean we are cast away from the presence of God forever, No.
There is Good News, the good news is that when God saw what sin is doing to mankind, when God saw how the devil has destroyed our lives by making us involve in all kinds of sin, it is like when we came into the world the devil said, now you mankind when you were in the presence of God we you mankind, you were too known, but now you are here and i will deal with you.
Now see how the devil is destroying the lives of people with sin, see how alcohol is destroying people’s lives, see how cocaine is destroying the live of people.
When God saw that, He called a meeting in heaven where he asked what was going to be done about this, so Jesus our Lord said “send me and I shall go”
So Jesus came and paid the penalty for our sin, by doing that he has bridge the gap between us and God. That is why when Jesus walked on the earth He said in John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
What Paul Told The Ephesian Church
What Paul Told The Ephesian Church
4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much,
5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
Paul had established churches in Ephesians, and to told them by a letter what God has done for them through Jesus Christ In Eph. 2:1-13, By saying “ But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much,”
There are many times when i have heard preachers say God is wicked, but i can’t read anywhere in the bible where it is said God is wicked, but we can read many times that God is love.
So Paul said “ that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.”
What Paul is saying is that when because sin we died (that’s separating from God) God gave us life when he rose Christ from the dead
What it means is that sin caused our death, that’s sin has separate us from God, But what God did through Jesus Christ has brought us life, that means death means we are separated from God and life means we are closer to God, so that is what Jesus did by filling the gap that was between us and God, therefore by believing in Him, We are brought near to God Read Eph. 2:13
13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.
You see it does not matter how you are far from God, God through the precious Blood of Jesus can bring you near to God.
Hearing And Listening
Hearing And Listening
25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
Jesus said the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
There is a difference between hearing and listening, the word of God is preached to all of us who are dead, that all of us who are far away from God because we have sinned, for it is sin that separate us from God.
The word of God has been preached to us, and we all hear the word being preached, but why is there no change in our lives, is because we are hearing the word with the hearing of the ear. we haven’t listened to the word.
Hearing the word, is with the ear but listening to the word is with the heart. we all the word of God but it is those who open’s their hearts to receive the word are those who will have life are save, just hearing the word has no benefit to you until you open your heart to receive the word.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
You know Jesus said I stand at the door and knock, when the word of God is been presented is like Jesus knocking the doors of your heart, therefore it is left with you to open your heart for Him to enter.
