1 Samuel 9:25–10:1 KJV 1900
And when they were come down from the high place into the city, Samuel communed with Saul upon the top of the house. And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad. And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God. Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
1 Samuel 10:6–16 KJV 1900
And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee. And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do. And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day. And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them. And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets? And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets? And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place. And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel. And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you. And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
1 - Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest of the tribes. His father was a wealthy man and he was described as being handsome, in fact there was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than Saul. He was tall, head and shoulders above everyone else.
2 - Not everyone needs to hear what God has to say to when He says it, sometimes He just needs to get you alone.
3 - Samuel had a lot to tell Saul and at the end of it he told him he was going to be a another man or a different person.
How many know, when you surrender to God’s assignment you become a different person? You do things you never thought you’d do or even could do.
4 - Could he follow instructions? He had already been gone from home for three days looking for the donkeys and he said his father would start to get worried about him and now Samuel is telling him to go to Gilgal and wait for him for seven days.
5 - All the signs Samuel told Saul would happen, happened that day. It could still happen that way today or it could take some time.
6 - When you’re doing what God has ordained and anointed you to do, people will talk.
7 - God may give you an ability for an appointed time and you may never do that particular thing again. While it may be exciting, move on, the best is yet to come.
8 - Not everyone had the opportunity to encounter, let alone sit down and eat with a prophet and Saul’s uncle wanted to know all about what happened.
9 - Saul told him about the donkeys, but he didn’t tell him about being anointed king. You can’t tell everybody, everything as soon as it happens, especially when it concerns the things of God. Some things are for you and God. Sometimes God reveals something to you, not for you to act on it immediately, but sometimes it’s to go into prayer about it, to get more clarity or to wait until the appointed time.
When we got to VA, God had impressed on me I would be the leader of the women’s ministry. The current leader had been there so long, the people were so attached to her and she was an awesome leader with great ideas. She was doing a great job and when she would even mention stepping down ladies would threaten to quit. It was already something that I was even a part of the group...
