Ephesians 6:1–20 KJV 1900
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Seven Things the Devil Does Not Want Us to Do
INTRODUCTION:
HE DOES NOT WANT US TO:
I. GO TO CHURCH
Hebrews 10:25 KJV 1900
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
He knows at church— God's Word is preached.
Holy Spirit convicts.
Needed encouragement is found.
II. PRAY
Luke 11:1–9 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
He knows that— Prayer brings power.
Prayer brings consecration.
Prayer brings victory.
III. WITNESS
John 4:28–29 KJV 1900
The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
He will— Hinder our words as witnesses.
Hinder our lives as witnesses.
IV. TRUST GOD
Job 13:15 KJV 1900
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: But I will maintain mine own ways before him.
He knows a trusting soul— Shall never perish.
Knows no defeat. Is God's pearl and joy.
V. READ THE BIBLE
Hebrews 4:12 KJV 1900
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God reveals Jesus to us.
Makes us think of Heaven. Makes us think of Hell.
VI. SEPARATE FROM THINGS OF THE WORLD
Ephesians 5:11 KJV 1900
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
The unseparated life— Has no influence.
Robs Jesus of the glory due Him.
VII. YIELD TO THE SPIRIT
Ephesians 5:18 KJV 1900
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
The Spirit-filled life— Brings Real Joy.
Brings power. Brings glory to God.
