Peter and Judas

We are examining this so we can examine our own lives, not so we can examine the loves of others around us.
When Jesus told the 12 that one of them was going to betray them they did not look around to talk about who they thought it was but to ask if they were capable of doing such a thing.

Seeing Jesus Work Wonders

Jesus Feeding the 5,000
John 6:5–6 NASB95
Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?” This He was saying to test him, for He Himself knew what He was intending to do.
Jesus Calming the Sea
Mark 4:39 NASB95
And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
Witnessing these things did not create lasting Faith so that they never fell away

Working for the Kingdom

Sharing In Christs Ministry
Matthew 10:1 NASB95
Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
Sent By Jesus
Luke 9:1–2 NASB95
And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.
This did not create lasting faith so that they never stumbled

They Both Mess Up In Jesus’ Final Days

Judas
John 12:1 NASB95
Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
Matthew 26:14–16 NASB95
Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?” And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him. From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.
Matthew 26:48–49 NASB95
Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him.” Immediately Judas went to Jesus and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Peter
Matthew 26:33 NASB95
But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may fall away because of You, I will never fall away.”
Matthew 26:69 NASB95
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant-girl came to him and said, “You too were with Jesus the Galilean.”

They Both Feel Remorse

Judas
Matthew 27:3 NASB95
Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Judas Kills Himself
Matthew 27:5 NASB95
And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.
Peter
Luke 22:61–62 NASB95
The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.
Peter Returns & Commits
Mark 16:7 NASB95
“But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’ ”
Acts 4:13 NASB95
Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.
