My God Shall
Philippians 4:10-20
From Rachael Carmen
We live in a world where, when we turn on the news, we see the natural disasters, crime, hate, and other hardships we are faced with. Sometimes it is hard for people to turn over and trust in God’s provision, when we are consumed in a world full of hate. But when we put our trust in the Lord, He will bring us peace when we face the hardships of life.
Whether we are struggling in our marriage, financially, in work, or any other way, when we put our trust in God, He will give us the strength, hope, courage, and peace, to keep getting up each day. I firmly believe everything we go through is just for a season, you will always find a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter what the circumstance is.
I know, personally, I have struggled with many different areas in my life over the years, and one thing that stays true through it all is God’s provision. It is easy to find yourself consumed with worry and anxiety about the situation, but if we turn it over to God, He will get us through! If you are facing what seems like an impossible situation, just pray to God. Hand it over to Him, and let Him take control of the trouble, and he will work it out in His timing!
Introduction
This is Paul's letter of thanksgiving to a little church that had been a big blessing in his life. The church at Philippi was founded in 50 AD on Paul's second missionary journey. When this little congregation learned that their beloved Apostle was in prison, they send him a gift of money by the hand of a church member named Epaphroditus. While there, Epaphroditus became ill and almost died. This distressed the Philippians and when Paul heard of their sorrow, he sent Epaphroditus home to them and along with him this letter of thanksgiving for their generosity. In these verses, Paul gives us some insight into a few blessings that we as believers can enjoy. As God gives me time tonight, I would like to share just three thoughts with you on this topic, My God Shall!
I. Strengthen Me (v. 10-13)
Philippians 4:10–13 KJV 1900
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
John Bunyan
He that is down needs fear no fall;
He that is low, no pride;
He that is humble, ever shall
Have God to be his guide.
I am content with what I have,
Little be it, or much;

Where Does Contentment Come From?

Paul Reisser, M.D., Christian Reader, Vol. 32, no. 1.
At some point in life, we must ask ourselves: Is contentment created internally or is it the result of "how things are going"?
Paul demonstrates for us where true contentment lies, in the highs and lows of life, God Gives.......
A. In Times of Poverty ( Abased - To discipline oneself, to tighten the belt.) Paul also knew how to be content when everything fell apart
2 Corinthians 11:22–30 KJV 1900
22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. 23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. 24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? 30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.
v24-195 lashes ( by the Jews)
v25-3 times beaten with rods ( by the Roman Magistrates)
v25- once stoned
Acts 14:19 KJV 1900
19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
v25 three times shipwrecked
B. In Times of Plenty ( To live in prosperity) ( Nobody has too much trouble here.) ( There is always the danger of getting one's eyes off Jesus - Heb. 12:2) ( Paul - His times of blessing included souls saved and God's blessings.)
( This is a little more difficult - Our pity parties, and whine times.) C. The Secret “I am instructed” - Paul knew the secret. Joy does not lie in our circumstances, it is wholly of God in Jesus our Lord . When your heart is tender and we learn to be receptive no matter what circumstances we are in.......We can have Joy over and over again......
1 Thessalonians 5:16 KJV 1900
16 Rejoice evermore.
Philippians 4:4 KJV 1900
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Nehemiah 8:10 KJV 1900
10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
If everything has to be right for you to be happy, then get used to miserable, for you will be there awhile!
but when you can learn to function in the secret sauce of life.....you can have JOY......
We have to learn to be abased and abound in life......That ain’t nothing but a life sandwich......but Joy of the Lord is like the meat in between life.....highs and lows....
You can do all things because it is God strength.......No to do what you want to do, but to learn to live in the extremes of life .....
YOU CAN BECAUSE MY GOD SHALL STRENGTHEN YOU...
Psalm 27:1–3 KJV 1900
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: Though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
Jesus is my secret sauce....Why because He my strength.....I keep coming back to Him because I need me some secret sauce....it taste so Good.....
because the Lord is Good.....
II. Supply Me (v. 14-20)

GIVING CHEERFULLY

A mother gave her little girl a quarter and a dollar before church, “Put whichever one you want in the collection plate and keep the other for yourself,” she told the girl. When they were coming out of church, the mother asked her daughter which amount she had given. “Well,” said the little girl, “I was going to give the dollar, but just before the collection the man in the pulpit said that we should all be cheerful givers. I knew I’d be a lot more cheerful if I gave the quarter, so I did.”

A BAD DREAM

The story is told of a man who had a horrible dream. He said, “I dreamed that the Lord took my Sunday offering and multiplied it by ten, and this became my weekly income. In no time I lost my color TV, had to give up my new car and couldn’t make my house payment. After all, what can a fellow do on $10 a week?”
If the Lord took your offering, multiplied it by ten, and made that your weekly income, how much would you make?

Dedicating or offering something or oneself to others or to God. Scripture stresses the importance of giving. The generosity and love of God in giving his only Son to die for his people is understood to lead to an obligation, on their part, to love God and others in return.

A. The Context These Philippian believers had sacrificed to meet Paul's need. Paul reminds them that God will take care of them!
B. The Comfort ( Not a wholesale, across the board promise! It is conditional upon our obedience!) When we give, and walk in obedience to His will for our lives, we can rest assured that He will meet all of our needs! ( Luke 6:38; Mal. 3:8-10) If you will do as God says, He will take good care of you - Psa. 37:25. ( Elijah, the Widow, Israel, the 5,000, etc.
Luke 6:38 KJV 1900
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Proverbs 11:25 KJV 1900
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: And he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Psalm 37:25 KJV 1900
25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his seed begging bread.
Proverbs 22:9 KJV 1900
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; For he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Proverbs 28:27 KJV 1900
27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
C. The Challenge Always honor God, or do not be surprised when He does not honor you! ( 2 Cor. 9:1-8 - All yourself to be a channel of blessing through which He can flow to reach others.)
Conclusion
Thank God, we serve a Lord who SHALL! Not Might, not could, but SHALL! I challenge you to bring your need to Him tonight and let Him have His way in whatever you need. He shall do it for you!
