Dreams and vision of being freed from the HABIT, ADDICTION, SIN of doubting God, lying, being prejudice
How many times have You’ve said
I wish I could stop doing that thing I keep doing that nobody knows, literally nobody in this room humanly speaking knows it.
I wish I could keep a tight rein on my MOUTH
I wish I was not prideful, or arrogant or rude,STRUGGLED WITH DOUBTING GOD or HAD UNGODLY ANGER (there is righteous anger)
I wish I could stop this addiction, habit, SIN (that is not of God)
ANYBODY
This is how I feel, Paul felt, and how when God called me into ministry
Somebody needs to here this today....all pastors struggle with sin....and
When I was called into ministry at a 18 year old I was not living for GOD far from it…I was lost in the passion of my flesh and the world.
God you called me to this life, but I am living this life....This is not going to work....How is my old life going to die? HOW DO I PUT MY OLD LIFE TO DEATH.
Relate to Paul
Romans 7:15,17-24
For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

You want to do good, but it seems every time you try to do
TENSION
How do we stop that thing? How do we become free?
3 ways the world lays out
- WILL POWER....Just stop it....You need more and more will power....It might work for an instant, it might work for a moment, but not a lifetime.....But eventually your strength will run out....you will be come tired.....HERE’S YOU CANNOT DEFEAT SIN BY YOURSELF....let that sink in....are you going to need WORK, HAVE WILL POWER, absolutely, but it isn’t enough

Martin Luther and other people would whip THEMSELVES, SELF FLAGELLATION, themselves when they sinned
- HUMAN WISDOM (SELF-HELP)
If you struggle with UNRIGHTEOUS ANGER go find a human wisdom self-help book, If you struggle with an addiction listen to a self-help YouTube video of PODCAST
At THEIR best they may help a little bit, but they will never give you what you fully want and they may be....AT WORST THEY WILL LEAD YOU ASTRAY...Sadly many are leading you to hell.
We do not need to go to these places.
Listen to what 2 Peter 1:3 says
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
God has given us all things through Him, the Word, and Church.
WE DO NOT NEED TO GO OUTSIDE OF GOD
GOD is enough
People have gone to mediation, raki and yoga
We need more of God, the Word, and the church more than we need anything.
HOW DO WE DEFEAT THE SIN THAT WAGES WAR IN US EVEN THOUGH WE ARE A SAINT?

Let’s read Gal 5:16-17
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Do you see what Paul is saying? WE DEFEAT SIN BY WALKING WITH THE SPIRIT
How we get FREE from sin
If you walk by Holy Spirit you will not follow the spirit of this World

What does it mean to walk with Holy Spirit? Or as in verse Gal 5:25
I am going to go a stroll with Holy Spirit....no
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

41.12 στοιχέω: to live in conformity with some presumed standard or set of customs—‘to live, to behave in accordance with.’
Paul uses both words to show what it means to walk with Holy Spirit
What it means is to follow the Spirit, live in conformity, behavior as Holy Spirit wants you to behave

How does that work? What does He do? Where does He lead?
Following Holy Spirit in this context does 2 things
It brings revelation and leads us to life.
Revelation
The first thing the Holy Spirit is going to reveal to you is what path you are on.
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Holy Spirit because he leads us into all truth as John 16:13 says will reveal to us are we on the EASY wide path that leads to destruction or the narrow hard path that leads to life.
Make no mistake the life giving path is narrow and hard
John 16:13
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
How do Holy Spirit reveal this truth to us?
4 Ws
Whisper - I had this happen to me this week when He said, “Pete you are giving little to no time to your family in the morning specially your son Ben who needs right now, you are either working or working out.”
Word - preaching and reading
We had moments when pastors are preaching the word and it seems like they are speaking directly to you, they are reading your mail, anybody been there, that is Holy Spirit speaking to you.
I had this week reading the Word in Mark 13 where God said, “The world will hate you because you are a Christ follower....Don’t be a jerk but also don’t people please…this is even more heighten in the world we are in where people are hostile to the TRUTH
Worship - Some of us feel cruddy, crappy, unlovable and during the worship Holy Spirit will comfort and correct you of you unGodly thoughts.....or sometime Holy Spirit will give us an answer or direction to something we had a question about or something we did not have a question about.
Witness (church) God uses the body of Christ to empowered by Holy Spirit to reveal truth in your life....sometimes it’s encouraging truth sometimes it is convicting truth....
Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
BUT we need to test what we believe Holy Spirit is saying....We might have heard incorrectly or we heard momma who we think is Holy Spirit voice say, “You’re wrong, you’ve dumb,”
LGBTQ.....It is based on worldly love not the voice of God....it is sin an abomination.
but test everything; hold fast what is good.
If it does not line up with the Word or Witness it is not from God.
When Holy Spirit reveals truth He will speak to us about whether we are the NARROW path that leads to life or on the wide easy path that leads to destruction.
And if we are on the wide path what Holy Spirit brings as John 16:8 says conviction
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
We don’t like that.....Who likes the word conviction from a fleshly point of view....Conviction can hurt sometimes and WE DO NOT LIKE BEING TOLD WAHT TO DO
Right men we do not like being told what to do.
Conviction, convicts us that we are on the wide destructive path

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
At this moment of Revelation of Truth that brings conviction, YOU ARE A CROSSROADS where you can REPENT or REJECT the truth

You can do what Romans 1:18-19 says when people are conviction of truth…REJECT IT THROUGH SUPPRESSION.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
The imagery in Greek of these words gives of the image of someone trying to SUPPRESS a ballon underwater....IT TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT TO SUPPRESS IT
You reject it, you will stay on the path of destruction.
Or you can repent μετανοώ
metanoia means to change direction, change the path you are on.
To repent many times means you are going to have to FIGHT or FLEE
To walk in the NARROW PATH OF LIFE you are going to have to FIGHT or FLEE

Sometimes to break threw the sin of GREED, LAZINESS, PREJUDICE, DOUBT
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
You are going to have to muster up some courage, you are going to have to pull out the boxing gloves, brass knuckles (the enemy does not fight clean or fair)
Sometimes you are going to need the church for you deliverance....You are going to need people to pray for you, fight for you.....This is what the church is for....I CAN TELL YOU FOR A FACT I WOULD NOT BE PREACHING TO YOU TODAY IF PEOPLE DID NOT FIGHT WITH ME AND FOR ME.

1 Cor 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
Some sins need us to flee....Fighting is not the key fleeing is to the narrow path.
I found this out with the passions of my youth
It didn’t work fighting at computer, it didn’t work fighting when she was around.
I NEEDED TO FLEE
I’ve known men who have cut their intern cord and traded in their smart phone for a dumb phone because of the season they are in for healing.
The same is true for alcoholics
They flee the bars and the parties, because they know one drink is not one drink.
DID YOU SEE WHAT HOLY SPIRIT DOES?
He reveals what path we are on
Then when we are on the narrow path he leads us to LIFE, FREEDOM, AND FRUIT

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
He is not only leading you to life....The narrow path leads to life....
He not only leads you to life but to FREEDOM
FREEDOM
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
There is FREEDOM in THE HOLY SPIRIT....not
FRUIT
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
When you walk with Holy Spirit you not only get LIFE, FREEDOM…you also get fruit of the Spirit
Who doesn’t want more joy in their life
Peace?
Patience?
Love?
How do we get this? Walking by Holy Spirit
WHAT PATH DO YOU WANT?
Wide and easy that leads to destruction
Narrow and hard that leads to LIFE, FREEDOM, FRUIT
How do we do this?
Listen to the whisper (pray)
Worship
Hear and read the word
Be in community with the witnesses
WHERE DOES HE LEAD US?
LIFE, FREEDOM, FRUITFULNESS
that brings TRUTH and CONVICTION
POWER
BUT THIS ONLY HAPPENS IF WE WALK BY THE SPIRIT
What we also get is LIFE, FREEDOM, AND FRUIT
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
GOSPEL
Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
