Welcome
Welcome
Prayer
God our father in heaven your name is above every name and you are Holy. God we ask that you will continue to cause your kingdom to come and that every tribe and tongue and nation will confess you as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. As we long to be good subjects under your rule, give us your Spirit that we might do your Will and not our own, help us be as obedient to you here on earth as those with you in heaven. God we praise you for your provisions for us, sustaining our daily even hourly needs. Be patient with us as you teach us to live daily upon you and we thank you that you have given to us the ultimate bread of life in your Son Jesus the Christ. Dearest Lord Jesus because we like sheep so often go astray we ask that you would graciously lead us away from temptation and protect us from evil.
Lastly Father we ask that you would be blessed by the tithes and offerings we brought to you this day, that you would help us to worship you with our whole hearts and that you would prepare our hearts and minds to receive from you this day your word of truth for your Word is truth.
Amen

Procrastinate = to delay in doing something, putting off until later...
How many of you would claim to be somewhat of a procrastinator?
All to some degree…
Some is better than others...
What can make procrastination a dangerous thing?
Follow God’s Plan
2 Samuel 3-5
Prayer
Lord Jesus we ask that you would speak to our hearts today. We thank you for this book of 2 Samuel and we praise you for the wisdom it contains for us. Clear our minds of distraction so that we can focus on you and your Word for us. Help this preacher to proclaim in clarity what you would have for us to hear. We give glory to you and Your Spirit by which we are exhorted this morning.

2 Sam 3.1-6
1 There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.
political wives / polygamy = snare
Even the best of us can have blind spots of which Satan can gain a foothold.
6 While there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul.
Beware of becoming “an Abner”, one who seeks ones own gain at the cost of others.
Ish-bosheth & Abner Fight
2 Sam 3.7-12
Play for the throne… Absalom and David
Dog’s head of Judah…
Anger at accusation does not equal innocence.
Righteous anger and sinful anger do not look the same, do not equate the two.
just because your paranoid does not mean they aren’t out to get you!
9 God do so to Abner and more also, if I do not accomplish for David what the Lord has sworn to him, 10 to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
Abner = God’s Will...
Knowing God’s will and choosing to do otherwise makes one twice as guilty.
12 And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and behold, my hand shall be with you to bring over all Israel to you.”
Never confuse yourself when it comes to whom is in control.
David Requests Michael
2 Sam 3.13-16
13 And he said, “Good; I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require of you; that is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come to see my face.” 14 Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, for whom I paid the bridal price of a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.”
The King has paid for his bride and will not be denied her.
Abner & David Meet
2 Sam 3.17-21
17 And Abner conferred with the elders of Israel, saying, “For some time past you have been seeking David as king over you. 18 Now then bring it about, for the Lord has promised David, saying, ‘By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines, and from the hand of all their enemies.’ ”
Mark this… We will come back
21 And Abner said to David, “I will arise and go and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires.” So David sent Abner away, and he went in peace.
Words alone do not make the King your friend.
Joab & David Fight
2 Sam 3.22-26
24 Then Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away, so that he is gone? 25 You know that Abner the son of Ner came to deceive you and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing.”
Who is Joab to speak this way. Who is Joab kidding? David does not answer!
Do not be so self deceived as to use the Kings honor as excuse for carrying out your own glory.
Abner Killed
2 Sam 3.27-30
26 When Joab came out from David’s presence, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the cistern of Sirah. But David did not know about it.
28 Afterward, when David heard of it, he said, “I and my kingdom are forever guiltless before the Lord for the blood of Abner the son of Ner.
30 So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle at Gibeon.
Remember Joab for the rest of this book...
David Mourns Abner
2 Sam 3.31-39
31 Then David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and mourn before Abner.” And King David followed the bier.
36 And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them, as everything that the king did pleased all the people.
39 And I was gentle today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are more severe than I. The Lord repay the evildoer according to his wickedness!”
1 When David’s time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, 3 and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, 4 that the Lord may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’ 5 “Moreover, you also know what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, how he dealt with the two commanders of the armies of Israel, Abner the son of Ner, and Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, avenging in time of peace for blood that had been shed in war, and putting the blood of war on the belt around his waist and on the sandals on his feet. 6 Act therefore according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace.
David mourned for his enemies… Our KING died for His.
David please the people in all he did… Jesus pleases our Father perfectly on our account.
David exercised mercy and grace upon those who do wickedness and yet will uphold justice in the end… Our KING does the same but whoa on those who His judgement falls!!
Ish-bosheth Assassinated
2 Sam 4.1-12
7 When they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him and put him to death and beheaded him. They took his head and went by the way of the Arabah all night, 8 and brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at Hebron. And they said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-bosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life. The Lord has avenged my lord the king this day on Saul and on his offspring.”
Jonathans commanders
Sometimes God allows for wicked things to happen in order to bring about the good He has designed… Cross of Christ!
David’s Judgement
2 Sam 4.9-12
10 when one told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and killed him at Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news. 11 How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous man in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and destroy you from the earth?”
Beware the danger of knowing of the KING and yet not knowing the KING personally.
David made King
2 Samuel 5.1-16
1 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Behold, we are your bone and flesh. 2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’ ” 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.
Rest assured that God’s Anointed One will one day rule ALL His alloted kingdom.

Let’s Go Back…
17 And Abner conferred with the elders of Israel, saying, “For some time past you have been seeking David as king over you.
18 Now then bring it about, for the Lord has promised David, saying, ‘By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines, and from the hand of all their enemies.’ ”

6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; 7 let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Prayer
Jesus to those who have been waiting I pray that you would draw them unto yourself even this very moment. Let their hearts of stone be broken and grant them your newness of life. Let them bow the knee to you today in joyful repentance. Let them crown you King of their lives this day and forevermore.
Lord God for those who at this very moment are ready to anoint you as king over there lives I pray with them now…
Father for those who have by your grace called you King already, we look forward to the day that you will come again and rule as the one true KING of Kings and LORD of Lords!
