2 Samuel 12:13–14 ESV
13 David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. 14 Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die.”
Reminder: Saul = Fake Repentance; David = True Repentance

Choosing to Repent is Better than Doubling Down and becoming Rebellious

Psalm 51:1–4 ESV
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

Seeking Mercy

from the One Who is Capable of FAITHFUL LOVE [Hebrew Hesed - faithful love on behalf of one in need]
++from the One Whose Mercy Endureth Forever (See Psalm 136)
++from the ONLY ONE with the Power to ABSOLVE Your Sin! (Isaiah 43:5 “I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.)
Psalm 51:3–6 NLT
3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. 5 For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. 6 But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.

Giving In instead of Fighting on...

I Have to See My actions and thoughts as REBELLIOUS
++I Have to See That I have Sinned, Done Evil and Deserve Judgment
++I Have to Understand I am a Sinner by NATURE (birth)
++I Have to Understand that God wants TRUTH and WISDOM instilled in my life
Consider These:
v. 7 PURGE me with Hyssop and I shall be clean
v. 9 HIDE Your face from my sins...
v. 10 CREATE in me a CLEAN HEART, O God (only He can do this)
v. 11 DO NOT CAST ME FROM Your Presence
v. 12. RESTORE to me the JOY of YOUR Salvation
v. 13 Then I will TEACH TRANSGRESSORS Your Ways and sinners shall be converted to You
v. 14 Deliver me from the GUILT of Bloodshed, O God, the God of My Salvation

How We KNOW that David LEARNED from Saul’s Fake Repentance

Psalm 51:16–17 NLT
16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.
