*“Walking with God (part 1b)”*
*Recap*:
#. “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” (vs.
5)
#.
There are three lies or steps that we fall into:
#.
We lie to others.
Vs 6
#.
We lie to ourselves.
Vs 8
#.
We lie to God or make him a liar.
Vs 10
Now we will hear the “Rest of the Story”
I Vs.
7, Vs. 9, and 2:1-2 Follow along as I read these four verses.
These verses give us hope that even if we start to fall into this trap of sinning and lying, there is a way out.
A Vs.
7 Walking in the light gives us fellowship with others
1 Vs.
6 said, “Don’t claim to be something that you are not.”
2 Were this verse says you don’t have to worry about being a hypocrite if you are “practicing what you preach”
B Vs.
9 Confess your sins and God will cleanse you!!!
1 Vs.
8 was dealing with the one who couldn’t admit to sinning.
2 Admit to God that you are a sinner and He WILL forgive you.
C Vs.
2:1-2
1 Vs.
10 this guy claimed to have never sinned.
2 Read vs. 2:1-2
a “If anybody does sin,” this could maybe be better read, “when you sin.”
· But John was giving us the benefit of the doubt here and saying that we do have a choice NOT to sin.
b We have someone who sits at the right hand of God defending us before God with Satan accusing us.
c Jesus Christ is our advocate.
1) What a beautiful picture:
a) Satan is standing there before God accusing you and me of all the sins that we commit
b) And Christ is sitting at the Father’s right hand saying, “but my blood covers his sin.”
i Then God looks at you and me through Jesus blood and sees a perfect man or woman,
ii Isn’t that Awesome.
D But lets all remember Verse 9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
II What a wonderful God we have who will forgive us and see us as perfect because of nothing that we did for ourselves but only because of the blood of Jesus Christ His one and only Son.
III As we move into the Lords Supper let us focus on God and what he truly did for us on the Cross of Calvary
