Pray
Isaiah 25:8–9 ESV
8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
Tears: Ever had a good cry? One of those ugly cries?
Two different types of tears: Basal - already in your eye and lubricate your eye to protect your cornea; Reflex - Wash away harmful irritants; Emotional - response to emotion and have hormones and proteins in them
Layers - inner mucus layers - keeps tear fastened to eye, water middle layer is thick and keeps eye hydrated, outer layer is oily and keeps surface smooth so eye can see through it and oil keeps other layers from evaporating
Make fewer tears as you get older
Why do we cry? Happy, Sad, Irritated, grief, frustration, hurt - many reasons why we cry.
When studying Scripture, one main component is asking questions - so we are going to ask a question for our key verses today: Why were the people crying?
What did we see in previous context? Devastation is coming - it will bring many tears
Isaiah: An Introduction and Commentary iii. Salvation and Provision: The World on Mount Zion (25:1–12)

In all his power (Sovereign) and in the fullness of his revealed nature as LORD (‘Yahweh’), God will dry the tears of his people. From all faces, i.e. he passes from one to another, individually, until every tear is dried

God is going to comfort His people - each individual - Amariah/Ethan - falling downstairs - each one had to be comforted
Disgrace -
Isaiah: An Introduction and Commentary iii. Salvation and Provision: The World on Mount Zion (25:1–12)

The disgrace: see Joshua 5:9 (‘reproach’). The disgrace of living in bondage and misery under alien rule in Egypt were gone, the days of living under the cloud of the disobedience of the golden calf were over: full covenant relationships were restored.

Joshua 5:9 ESV
9 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.
full covenant relationships were restored.
VS 9 -
They will say is singular in the Hebrew: it is the individual voice fully participating in a communal testimony to our God
J. Alec Motyer, Isaiah: An Introduction and Commentary, vol. 20, Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries (Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1999), 193.
Isaiah: An Introduction and Commentary iii. Salvation and Provision: The World on Mount Zion (25:1–12)

The saving work was wholly his, without human contribution. It was his salvation for which we simply waited in hope and trust.

Psalm 147:3 ESV
3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
