In Troubled Times
In Troubled Times
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Sometimes the best preparation comes
As a warning
A Declaration
Paul was preparing Timothy for the days ahead
In this life there will be some tough seasons
In this life there will be some tough seasons
The church feels good
In a righteousness environment
in a atmosphere of peace
in a sin free zone
The goal of the Christian life is not feeling good.
The goal of the Christian life is not feeling good.
Feel good Christianity
has little impact
rarely leaves a mark
is not important
is irrelevant
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Clarifying a known truth- Message (Don’t be Naive)
1 Don’t be naive. There are difficult times ahead.
The message of troubled days is not new.
John the baptist
Jesus declared it.
Paul repeat it
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
The word also connecting this to a previous statement.
The word also connecting this to a previous statement.
1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
A soldier
++Must be strong
++Be fully commited
++Have endurance
Why?
Why?
Though a soldier trains in peace.
His purpose is for war
His mission is coming
War will happen
You can be strong
But unwilling to fight
No ready to fight
Afraid to fight
Our training is for the fight
Our training is for the fight
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
A feel good Christian
at best just survives
God want you to thrive
To thrive means to grow or develop well or vigorously
To thrive means to grow or develop well or vigorously
Every thing can grow
God wants you to grow well
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Putting away is a choice
Putting away is a choice
We must put it away
not aside
not down
not pick up and carry around

Paul reminds Timothy
what you know is enough
maturity is measured by experience
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

In Trouble times
We need the word of God
We need to know the word
Heaven and earth shall pass away but my word shall stand.

Conclusion
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
The Word of God
Is our source
is our help
is our hope
in the word of God I have a hiding place
It is the secret place
It is the secret place
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I am protected in troubled time
Good time
Bad time
working for my good
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
