The Blessings of Giving Back To God!

Intro: This is the season for giving or so they say! We constantly “have” to buy more Christmas gifts, cards, and everything seems more expensive than ever. (Probably because it is!)  But what about giving to God? Most people don’t like to hear sermons on tithing but tithing isn’t exactly what I want to speak about. It is giving cheerfully; not merely out of duty, or necessity, or because we have to but because we want to!

We cheat ourselves out of some great blessings not only in Heaven but also in life!

2 Corinthians 9:6-15KJV

6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; 13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; 14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. 15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

  • \\ Verse 6-7 if you sow little you will reap little! When we give less than we can give or of a hard heart or because we feel we have to. We are cheating ourselves out of bountiful blessings!*

Some of us would say that isn’t fair I cannot afford to give as much as others can why must they be blessed more than me! I am not saying how much to give unto God! Rather to give

Mark 12:41-44KJV

41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

You already know some say a tenth but we aren’t held down to that amount! And whatever you give you receive much more from God!

Luke 6:38KJV

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God will greatly bless you for your giving! Don’t think He will ever forget your gift!

Don’t give because you are forced to but because you want to! That is most important!

Some churches send bills for the weekly offering! A new thing is to be futuristic and allow members to have it taken out of their checking accounts! Some send letters or call members who haven’t given enough! That is sick!! We shouldn’t be forced to give! But give because we look forward to it! (Bro. Mike)

Verse 8 God is able to greatly bless you! And if you let Him He will do just that! You have a blessing waiting!

God is the One who makes all grace abound toward you and provides you sufficiency in all things. All things beneficial for our lives come from God’s hands.

But be careful! Don’t do your giving to be seen of men! To be patted on the back so to speak, rather do it privately, give to God!

Matthew 6:1-4KJV

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Verse 10-12 Often we fear how can we afford to put anything in! (Even I get scared!
) allow me to read from the NASB the next few verses.

2 Corinthians 9:10-12NASB95

10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; 11 you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.

God supplies us what we have he will supply us when we give!

You will be enriched! In everything!

  • \\ Verse 13-15 when people see what God has done for you they will glorify Him! *

2 Corinthians 9:13NASB95

13     Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all,

Matthew 5:16KJV

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

2 Corinthians 9:15AMP

Now thanks be to God for His Gift, [precious] beyond telling [His indescribable, inexpressible, free Gift]!
