Talk about vacation
All the good things
This vacation was like a reset for my mind, heart, and soul
17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
Every good act of giving and every perfect gift is from above
God created the world and everything in it as a gift to us
How often do we take the time to enjoy the gifts he has given us?
When our thinking becomes infected, it can affect our heart, and eventually our soul.
We need a reset to overcome this
Talk about series
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
With God’s help, we can change the way we think
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
1) True - the opposite of dishonest and unreliable
1) True - the opposite of dishonest and unreliable
44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Renewing your mind means thinking true and reliable things and not lies.
Lies
That the enemy has you believe (bringing up your past sins)
That others say about you (letting others define your worth)
That you say about yourself (negative self talk)
Truth
God’s word and promises to you (never forsake you, his love for you)
What God says about you (prized possession)
Who you really are (created in the image of God)
2) Honorable - dignified and worthy of respect
2) Honorable - dignified and worthy of respect
2 Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
Honoring God and everything he created
Nature
Talents
Other people
Taking the proper time to honor God not out of compulsion but as someone who deserves our respect
3) Right - conforming to God’s standards
3) Right - conforming to God’s standards
23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.
Holiness vs Worldliness
Are you looking more and more like God everyday or more and more like the world?
Who is the standard bearer in your life?
4) Pure - wholesome not mixed with moral impurity
4) Pure - wholesome not mixed with moral impurity
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
What has the potential to contaminate you and spread?
Examples
What you watch or listen to
The way you work when no one is watching
The way you talk about others when they are not around
Your actions when your away from other Christians
5) Lovely - what promotes peace rather than conflict
5) Lovely - what promotes peace rather than conflict
14 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.
Greek word prosphile meaning pleasing and agreeable
Do you spend more time thinking about how to bring the peace or how to win the argument?
6) Admirable - positive and constructive rather than negative and destructive
6) Admirable - positive and constructive rather than negative and destructive
11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
Do you always assume the best in people or jump to the worst?
Do you build more people up than you tear down?

Our thoughts are so important because toxic thoughts can cause an infected heart and soul.

1 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
