Unity

So far we have talked about our unity in being like minded in Christ, our unity in being servants, and this week we are going to talk about our unity as a community of believers. If you would turn with me to Acts 2:42-47.
Acts 2:42–47 ESV
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
This is the first church and this is how they came together. There are several similarities when you look at the first church and the church that we have today but there are also several things that are different. Today we are going to break down the church in Acts 2 and see what it is that we can learn.
There were 4 things that the church commited themselves to.
Devoted themselves to the teaching of the Disciples
The church dedicated themselves to learning.
They wanted to know more about Jesus.
Fellowship together.
They found ways to come together as believers.
The breaking of bread.
This occured more than once a month. This happened almost every day.
Prayer
When we are united as a community of believers we experience:
Connection with others.
Generosity for the needy.
Worship, community, and communion.
Praising and Glorifying God.
Growth.
