HOOK

It’s WEDNESDAY the 5th day of August
Happy birthday to a dear friend and kumpare— Mel Medina in Japan
Let us pray for Lebanon, specially for OFW’s--- there was a massive explosion yesterday
Welcome back to the verse by verse study of the gospel of John
Yesterday right here at “The Message” we started chapter 18. From the arrest of our Lord Jesus we learned that:
CRIME DOES NOT PAY — This is an idiom that means crime does not benefit the criminal, and only results in negative consequences.
Let’s pick it up from where we left off yesterday— Open your Bible to JOHN 18:15-18, 25-27, once you get there, type Amen!
SIN TO CONFESS, PROMISES TO CLAIM, ATTITUDE TO CHANGE, COMMANDS TO KEEP, EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW, PRAYERS TO PRAY, ERRORS TO AVOID, TRUTH TO BELIEVE, SOMETHING TO THANK GOD FOR
Read JOHN 18:15-18, 25-27

BOOK

John 18:15–18 NIV
15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. 17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter. He replied, “I am not.” 18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.
John 18:25–27 NIV
25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not.” 26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.
You can also find this incident recorded in the synoptic [a common view] gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and here in John
Ok let’s try to recreate the scenario in our mind
So, when Jesus was arrested at the Garden of Gethsemane, all the disciples left except for Peter and one more disciple who followed Jesus when he was brought to the high priest
The disciple that was with Peter whose name was not mentioned was known to the high priest was able to join Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard [patyo]
But Peter had to wait at the door outside— so disciple known to the high priest went back and talked to the servant girl on duty to let Peter in— so Peter got in
They were standing around the fire warming themselves
Now let’s see what happened next

LOOK

YOU AREN’T ONE OF THIS MAN’S DISCIPLES TOO, ARE YOU? SHE ASKED. HE REPLIED, I AM NOT
“She”, most likely the servant girl that the other disciple spoke to that gave him access to get in
This was the first time Peter denied [itinanggi, ipinagkanulo] the Lord
SO THEY ASKED HIM, YOU AREN’T ONE OF HIS DISCIPLES, ARE YOU? HE DENIED IT SAYING, I AM NOT
This was the second time Peter denied Jesus
And then another servant, a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off challenged him
DIDN’T I SEE YOU WITH HIM IN THE GARDEN? AGAIN PETER DENIED IT
This was the third time Peter denied our Lord Jesus— then suddenly, a rooster began to crow
It was not mentioned here in John but in Matthew, Mark and Luke— it was written that Peter remember what the Lord said early on— [MATTHEW 26:75, MARK 14:72, LUKE 22:61-62]
Again, another prophecy of the Lord was fulfilled— [JOHN 13:36-38]
SHOW NEWS CLIPS
China orders low-income families to abandon their Christian faith
They are even told to replace the images of Jesus with the images of their CCP leader and President Xi Jinping— though we don’t really subscribe to the hanging of any images [EXODUS 20:4-5]
On the average, 11 Christians are killed everyday for their decision to follow Jesus
Most of us living here in the US and in the Philippines are blessed because we still enjoy some degree of religion freedom— I said some degree because we also experience some kind of oppression and persecution because of our faith and decision to follow our Lord Jesus
But what if we are subjected to harsh social condition— let me give a hypothetical [kathang isip] scenario… If for example, China invaded the Philippines
Will You Deny Jesus?
When the rubber meets the road— will you disown our Lord?
I only have one “take away” from our devotional study for today… before you write it down, pray and search your heart.... ask yourself sincerely if you can say this statement by heart…

TOOK

I WILL NEVER DISOWN MY LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST
