What does the text say? 2 Tim. 3:16-17 (God intentionally chose the words He used)
What does the text mean? 2 Pet. 1:20-21 (God intended certain meaning behind those words, meaning that anyone is capable of grasping)
Hermeneutics consists of studying:
Context
Historical - Acts 16 (Paul uses Roman Citizenship)
Logical - Galatians (Sanctification comes by faith - developed logically)
Rhetorical or compositional patterns - Ps. 136
Grammar analysis
Verbs - Acts 20:28 (Note what each person is doing, trinitarian verse)
Nouns - John 1:1 (John connects Jesus with OT scripture using nouns)
Prepositions, particles, and clauses - Php. 2:5-8 (Paul builds his idea using clauses)
