Proverbs

A gentle answer turns away wrath,

but a harsh word stirs up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge,

but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.

How we communicate can give people an indication of whether we are people who care or people who condemn.

John

17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him

proverbs

7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge,

but the hearts of fools are not upright.

proverbs

2 Fools find no pleasure in understanding

but delight in airing their own opinions.

“WISE MEN TALK BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY; FOOLS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING” ~ PLATO

Do you communicate to understand and empathize? Or do you communicate just to be heard?

Proverbs

13 To answer before listening—

that is folly and shame.

James

3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

Our words are powerful and we must treat them as such.

7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

How do you feel about the words you communicate based off what James as to say?

Tell story of being a Pastor’s kid and hearing swear words...

19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

When we fail to listen, we fail to love.

Luke

45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Watch your words, open your ears, and allow your heart to understand and empathize with others.

But that all beigns with surrendering and seeking Jesus

Some of us want with communion with Christ without really communicating with Christ. Some of us want to hear from God but don’t want to actually listen to Him.

There is absolutely a difference between temperament and personality. Personality is a snapshot of behavior or feelings or emotions in a certain time, so it's the what. And then temperament is the why behind the what. It's the why behind the feelings or the why behind the emotion or the why behind the behavior. So it's two completely different things.
