When they know your flaws , before they know your name.

I meant I want to talk to you about something you don't have any notes this morning because this is one of those encouraging messages that I drop in from time to time. It's not really a teaching there's there's there's different types of sermons. If you are preaching there's teaching there's different types of teaching.

And I enjoy doing all of it this morning. I just want to I want to preach this message to you because it's one of my favorite text and I felt impressed of the Lord this week. I kept wanting to go to our series on By Design and I just couldn't get the the release in my spirit to do that. And so I'm going to take you to 2nd Samuel chapter 4 verse 4. It's 11:30. We may have you out before the Baptist get to the restaurant. All right, here we go when they know your flaws before they know your name, let's look at

Artex 2nd Samuel chapter 4 verse for this is the English Standard Version Jonathan. The son of Saul had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was 5 years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel and his nurse took him up and fled and as she fled in her haste, he fell and became lame and his name was mephibosheth married again Jonathan in his feet. In her haste, he fell and became lame and his name was mephibosheth father had your blessings of the word of God speak to us. And I pray the Lord that you'll encourage us through this word this morning something that always lays heavy on my heart. And that is the identity of people and understanding that identity and you understanding that who we are you made us and we can be very very proud of that. We can ask actually celebrate that and the differences we have between us and Lord. I pray that you'll just take the next few moments and allow your Holy Spirit to saturate our hearts. When we leave in a few minutes, maybe truly say we're not leaving like came in Jesus name. Everybody said a man when they know your flaws before they know your name. Interesting story in the Old Testament hear Jonathan is the son of Saul Saul was the king and Jonathan and Saul died in the same battle on the same day. So Jonathan has a son. And as it was in that day, whenever there was going to be a change in regime when there was a nuke incoming in the first order of business for the new king typically was to kill everyone in the family of the previous rain that would keep uprisings down that would keep mutinies down. And so Mephibosheth is a small child and his nurse hears the news that Saul and Jonathan have been killed and so in an act of good intention. She grabs the boy up. She's on the way out the door. She drops him. Had to have been a pretty severe fall that calls from that moment on he becomes crippled in his feet. I know literally were talking about a physical ailment, but I want to use it symbolically this morning for the stuff that we all carry in our lives that are the flaws that make us who we are. What's interesting about this story and we'll read more of it in another place in the moment is that scripture tells you his Affliction before it tells you his name? That's so typical of our culture today. I struggle against this all the time and it's my if I could if I could boil it down to one single desire that I would love to minister to administer own. It's people who feel like they don't measure up to what this society and culture says they should measure up to I can't stand it. And it's everywhere you look you flip her social media and if I sit there and I guess it's amazing to me because I just I don't I really don't concerning. You know what people think if you're in Ministry and you ain't got passed that after the first few years you going to have a long hard life. Cuz everybody's got an opinion. Can you say man? Everybody's got an opinion about everything and when you put on Facebook and you go

would you think I'm like, are you kidding me? You really want to put that out there and ask this culture what they think about you what's even more amazing is we actually get upset at what they think Like it should really matter in our lives what somebody thinks about a picture that we took about us, but do you know that it's not just a light thing. It gets very deep into people's psyche and deep into their heart that they cannot then begin to function unless they feel like culture is approving everything that they do. I love flipping through stuff. I have something on my phone called Flipboard and it's a it's like a news thing and it flips up and I just swipe up and and and I just flipped through the morning, but I'm having coffee lot of times. I flipped through until something grabs my attention and I'm always amused when I come across the fashion stuff out of Paris that something that you wouldn't pick up dog mess in the yard, but it's supposed to come and it's supposed to be great. Come on. Can you say I mean, I'm like who wears that stuff. I got us here is ripping. That's for sure. They run you out of town and it's amazing to me all the different things that our world says if you want to be current if you want to be cool now, I'm not against it. I'm not against people buying the latest fashion and feeling good about what their I'm not talking about that I'm talking about people who are dependents don't know which end is up half the time anyway changes every day and we find ourself chasing that hoping that somebody will approve us. I say it often but it's not a promise cuz I don't I don't do politics from the pulpit and that but we need to write just know Donald Trump's attitude not because of his politics, but because he just don't care. What's my favorite thing then whatever having him news briefing was like get your popcorn ready? This is going to be the best show. You're going to see all week long. He going to fight with a few reporters. He made me throw one of them out cause he don't care probably should care little bit once in awhile. And I think about what would it be? Like if I do an entire series on talking about being free from the fear of man? It's something that I've I've worked on really hard. I don't worry about it with appearances. But a lot of times it's tough for Ministry because you are your kind of your you're commanded if you will go through scripture into the voice of the Holy Spirit to speak certain things when you know, they're not going to be popular and you have to do them because everybody likes to be like in it. There's nobody but doesn't like to be like and if you say you do I would say you're not telling the truth cuz you really do it feels good when people approve you it feels good. And that's okay until we are so dependent on it. If we don't get it we go downhill if we don't get it we turn to something else. We don't get it. We turn to a bottle return the drugs return to this return to that because we're no longer getting the affirmation that we need from culture and hit me this morning and I want you to I want you to take it to heart the power of Pop Culture. Not to Define you is your choice. Look at it again the power of Pop Culture. What is pop culture that is short for popular culture. It's whatever is the hip thing and the current thing the ability for it not to Define you and love you and Rule you is going to be your choice. A lot of people feel like they're a victim and they cannot get out of it. I've come to declare to you this morning. I believe you can get out of it. Can you say man? our story a boy Who his flaws are known before his name? He's crippled on his feet. I got three simple things to share with you. First of all, this looks really simple, but I want you to follow me everybody. Say this here. Everybody say I am here to stupid you can see that we're here. That's not what I mean. You are here you are in this moment in time, and you cannot go backwards. amen I don't care how good you are how much money you have intelligent you are there's one thing that levels the playing field this morning. We are in this spot. And all we can do is go forward. We cannot go backward. What does that got to do with anything because people spend too much time worrying about where they were instead of where they're at. If we had time this morning to pass a microphone around and people were willing I would say we could spend all day talking about things. We wished we had done differently. Can I get a witness?

Because we've all done stupid stuff. It was a whole lot better doing stupid stuff before there was cameras everywhere. Can you say Amen? There was some stuff you did stupid when you were at the older folks that they can die like man. I'm glad I didn't live in this day because they had me on I mean you Google it and it's yours say what I'm saying. Now, you can't you can't do anything because your fault or your men are the things the things that that that pulled you or whatever it maybe they just continue to be pulled up to you by a culture that will not let me forget it and there's an enemy out there who would love to continue to tell you that because the more you believe or something you're past the left you can look to your future a man. I'm all about the future. I do not stand here this morning as one that has had an a a simple path to this point. My path has been very and not only has a path been full of mistakes. My mistakes were broadcast all over the country in certain circles in Ministry circles. I told the storm before I'm not going to go into it today, but I left Ministry was out of Ministry for some fifteen years really I was back and forth and it but I really wasn't in it. I left it in 1996. I crashed an end up with the Nashville Tennessee and just returned to My First Love of music. And and in the in the next few years would ensue some stupidity that defies logic that I would participate in and be a part of and if you Google me now. I can't really guarantee what's going to come up. I haven't got that Google racer yet. I haven't found it. You may see me playing at the club. You not going to see me with a lampshade on my head, but you may see me playing in a bar here or doing this here doing that there and you know, I'm over it. I'm over people worrying about Army worrying about what someone's going to think and approve of me because of the stuff in my past because you don't listen to me. There's only two people in this world. There are people stuff is no known and there's people their stuff isn't known but there is no people without stuff. Oh y'all missed a great place to shout right there. I'm going to say that one more time. Some people everybody knows that jump other people. We just don't know your stuff, but you got it and don't them folk. Most of time have a tractor trailer load. Can I get a witness? That was the best statement of the morning right there?

What it look like it doesn't matter if it's a pH it doesn't matter if it's a failed marriage. It doesn't matter if it's something worse than that. If it's jail time prison time, I don't care if it happened before this moment said what you have a choice to do is your right here and you can choose to say to this culture. You will not Define me by your standards.

if the greatest day of my life I mean, I just I don't understand people who are just enslaved to fashion fashion is fine. But for the can't go out of the house I go out the house sometimes and go. Address me. Going to the shop. I worry some time now that I'm pastoring again and faster than you. I'm standing at the Circle K. Get milk and donuts when it should be a nutri-grain bar. That's Donuts cuz ain't nobody else around come on. I'm looking I'm going man. I hope they don't know. I'm not really representing real. Well, that's the only time I worry about it as far as me. I understand. I'm free. I'm free from that worried of what you think about that in me. I like to I like to dress nice. I like to have nice things. I mean, I I addressed one time and and that Kaylee and art criticized my britches and it hurt my feelings for 3 days, but I got over it. Now they really it didn't hurt my feelings. They did. Give me a hard time about it. I really did you get them out of that. You watch closet. I said what? We have fun with stuff like that. And the truth of the matter is my friends know you can do that. You can do that. You can say stuff like that doesn't matter to me. Yes. I'm 20-30 28 pounds over. I don't know somewhere in there. It doesn't matter to me. I'm not going to live in an in to this culture to tell me how I've got to be. You know, why because I'm In This Moment. I'm right here and I have a choice everybody say I have a choice. Jonathan the son of Saul had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was 5 years old. The news came as nurse took him up and fled and that she fled in her Hasty felon became lame. It was mephibosheth noticed one thing we leave point one. And that is it was a good intentions of a nurse time do the right thing, but he wound up crippled some of you are carrying things from your childhood that no one really meant for it to do it. They didn't really mean for it to happen. It happened and I don't think and in somebody and you hold held on to it for years and nothing. Can I just share with you? But sometimes even when you were a victim you have to let that go in order to move on.

You cannot stay in the victim State and see the goodness of God has you have to get to a place because there are some people that they like the identity of their ailment. You miss that. but like the identity of their dysfunction They're proud of their dysfunction because their dysfunction what's this has become their identity. What happens with that if we don't understand that there is an identity in Christ that we are to walk in. So we don't have to be saved to the identity of our dysfunction. I bet Jonathan Jonathan grew up going I didn't ask to be born into royalty. I didn't ask to be picked up that day. I fast to be dropped but I've been crippled my whole life because my daddy and my granddaddy were royalty got killed and I had to be moved. It ain't my fault don't we live in that Society? It ain't my fault. It ain't my fault and maybe it wasn't your fault. But are you going to continue to wallet when it or are you going to say? I'm right here? And I can move forward.

Number to you got to understand the power of Covenant everybody. Say Covenant. Come on. Say Covenant. The only way you'll get free of people's opinions is when you understand the power of Covenant in the word of God. What you don't understand here? Let's let let let let me let me read little bit to you. This is over and I'm 9 we were in for an hour and 9 watch this and David said stop right there David. Who is David David the new king. He's sitting on the throne. I don't know how much time is elapsed here. But one day he's remembering. You know, what? He's remembering. He's remembering a covenant that he made with his best friend Jonathan Andrew Johnson is he's the father of mephibosheth watch and David said is there still any one left at the house all that? I may show him kindness. Watch Johnson's sake I didn't put it up here. But here's what that Covenant was Jonathan and David got together one day and they say we're going to make a covenant back. Then you drew blood and you mixed blood at the field at covenant. It was an important and specific things and here was the Covenant. They said if something happens to me, you'll take care of my family. If something happens to you. I'll take care of your family. That's a covenant we cut today and Generation I said, okay. It's King now. He's sitting there and he remembers the Covenant. So he is there still anyone left of the House of Saul that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake.

There was a servant of the House of Saul whose name was I born and they called and said to Nan and the King said to him are use I buy he said I am your servant and the King said is there not steal someone about how some solve but I make sure the kindness of God the Bible said to the king now. Listen, we're I don't know how much time has elapsed but what's this? What's this? There's still a son of Jonathan. He's crippled in his feet. But the second time scripture doesn't tell us his name just tells us his Affliction. The gossip was around that day is not much different than the gossip today. Come on say man. And when they were talking with one another they would talk about Jonathan had a son. We don't know where he's at but he's a crippled boy. He's a cripple board and Sophie the sermon it's called before the king. So he repeats. The only thing he knows Jonathan has a son whose label he's crippled on his feet and the King said to him. Where is he? Son of the king he is in the house of next year at Lodi bar. Then King David sent brought him from the house. Make sure the son of a meal a meal at lodebar. What's this? And the finish at the son of Jonathan son of Saul came to David and fell on his face and paid homage and David said mephibosheth now David is excited to see him but watch what I have done. What what has happened fish people have known nothing but his Affliction, I don't know. They say he's about 20 21 years old here is what historians say and watch what is attitude is David said and he answered behold. I am your servant and David said to him do not fear for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father and you shall eat at my table always and he painted. What's this? This is the reply and he paid homage and said, what is your servant that you should show regard? for a dead dog such as I

Do you understand? What just happened?

Brittany before first of all if we could transport back to that day that the kingsguard went and got him. I believe that was a rough day because probably for 21 years before the chef has lived in fear. What if I find me they'll kill me because I was a part of a previous regime the family of a previous received every knock on the door, but I said, I wonder if somebody looked out the window sits at is the kingsguard and mephibosheth was sure does The Day My Life ins but instead because I didn't even know about the bring it to the king and David said man. This is what they were saying scriven language. So good to see you more. Can I get a witness making sometimes you just got to keep it in our language year?

Everything that belongs to you in this is what it's so powerful to me. He does not hear it.

He does not hear it. Because when David is through the Declaration of the king that anybody would be rejoicing and dancing and jumping up and down about my Fitbit. Why are you even talkin? Do a dog like me. Cuz that's what culture does to you if you let him. They will beat you down so far. Even when God is screaming his goodness that you you cannot hear it. Because you've been listening to this culture for way too long.

I thank God for all the technological advancements.

I love technology. I love gadgets. I got too many of them. And I'll buy more. I just love gadgets to help me do something. I'll get it.

And judgment, that's why we are so passionate here and I'll tell you want to get me mad and get me out of the Pastoral role quick and make me have to pray through. Talk about not allowing or talk about somebody being strange that wants to come in here because they don't look like we look just like we dress. And I'll get upset with you quick. Because we have I have I am a Watchman on the wall of the culture of love and acceptance in this house. You know how many people have told me they come through this house? I can't count. And how they didn't feel welcomed on the phone. Current folks included here. I'm talking about whatever was back and I wouldn't hear them. I've been told it all and all I can look at him and say it's well ain't that way now? You come in now you come in here and in tennis shoes and come in here in a tie you come in here and coat. You can come in here in jeans. You can come in here. However, you want to come we prefer you be decent. Don't come naked. Can I get a witness statement? I just seen if y'all still awake. You shouldn't tell so much from the pulpit man I go and how can I not be authentic with the people? I'm trying to minister to? How can I not reveal to you? Yes, I made mistakes. I'm not that person. I work hard everyday. I don't believe I'm in slave to it. I believe I've been set free from it and oh, yes, there's a lot of things. I wish I would have done differently, but I didn't and so I am here in this moment and I know the power of covenants and do you know what there was a covenant made on my behalf? You think that's the beauty of this whole thing people look at the Bible and they said where's the dinosaurs and I don't believe the Bible because it doesn't have disc cause you see it wrong. The Bible is not a book of evolution. The Bible is a book about Redemption where there is a covenant made between a God and a People Penny says, I'm going to get you back to the place that I had you when I created you in the movie. That's the whole goal was to get us back to that place where we rule and we reign with him and we established his domain. What is the Kings domain it's the king having influence in all of those areas. You better believe I believe in praying over schools.

I believe in Walking The Halls. But here lately, it's on my heart. I cannot get it out of my heart. To build a school don't know how don't know don't know what don't know where it's coming from. I just know there are too many children that are not getting exposed to principles basic principles of the Christian faith. Not even as an equal time against whatever they want to present somewhere else or something else. It's just getting shoved because if you were the devil, how would you do it? You get it up. That's why that child over there. I want an internal nose this cuz I'm priest it for years and years that child over there until she know what I want a mouse going. I had a good time. God is good.

I don't care if she can recite a verse although Cheryl will go over a birth with her. That's great. And she'll get some extra treats if she can do that. I want her to know one thing. I won't be still going to grow up knowing one thing on August 4th. You better believe I'm going to have blow up things out here. I'm going to have fun for them. Like I'm on a if I could do it if I could put a here I would. Cuz I want kids to go all my goodness. I couldn't believe Church could be this fun church was not fun for me.

Just because you come to his table doesn't mean you've gotten rid of all your junk.

Did you get that? See there a lot of people that want you get around God's table. the table of the Lord Then you're not supposed to have any flaws. Your you're supposed to be everything's right. I know people are going to take communion cuz oh my God, I read somewhere. If you take communion and you got saying you'll die. He'll kill you will kill you before you reach that wrote out there. That's the stuff we pick up somewhere. Crazy, he's a father. He's a father. How many godchildren say a man has got you on the drive him crazy Say Amen?

But no matter how much they drive you crazy.

when suck time they're coming to the table. When it's time to sleep. They're going to their bed. When it comes Christmas time, they're going to get presents. Why because they're your child. I know you wish they wouldn't do some things they do. You look at him sometimes and go. I am going to kill you.

And at that moment you are absolutely serious. You're trying to figure out where to hide the body.

In the old days they had so many kids. They won't even miss you. Come on say man.

Something gets ahold of you and says no, that's my child.

And you think that the God that I serve who is the perfect father would be any different? As long as my heart is toward him. You realize dog said about David he has him. He's the only one God said he's a man after my own heart. I don't know if you've read David's biography. It one good. But he always had a repentant heart towards God. He always said. I'm an idiot. Help me. That's what he would say, man. I messed up help me and they're often times because there's something called The Law of sowing and reaping. You know, what that is whatsoever a man soweth that he shall. Okay. What that means is that doesn't negate forgiveness you get forgiven and you'll be blessed by God, but you may set some things in motion that you going to reap some stuff from You get pregnant. Will forgive you. To restore you. Can still use you just like he would have if you never got pregnant out of wedlock, but there's a youngin coming in nine months. You going to have to deal with? Call the law of sowing and reaping. Things that we do you get drunk get married in Vegas fine, but now you got to wake up with somebody. You don't know their last name. Come on. Can I get a witness? It's suppertime and I don't think suppertime for him was much different than supper time for you supper times when you found out what kind of mood and what kind of day everybody's had. Sometimes you knew ain't been a good day between them two. What's going on in Clive? What's going on here? And I believe it was the same way in all of a sudden. There's a there's a knock at the door of the of the dining chamber, which is unusual. You don't disturb and I can see two big dogs, swing it open and silence Falls as everyone wants to know who is interrupting dinner time for the king. Must be somebody of importance must be somebody that we just can't imagine the royalty that would interrupt no.

It's a crippled boy dragging his feet in. Looking for his seat. But he don't belong here ain't your say. Call y'all mastirbate place.

King said I got a seat in this room somewhere and I ain't leaving till I find my seat.

Bread and puppet people turning their nose up with since we can't do anything about you can't fix stupid. Can I get a witness?

I can't keep people from coming to the turn to something other people. I can't. But I can tell you you don't have to let it bug you.

Drug himself around that table until he found his seat and scripture records. He ate continually. and was laying Still had his faults flaws still had the marks in his body of something. He didn't ask for. But you couldn't keep him from the king's table. I don't know. I don't know what's going on in your life. I don't know.

But here's what I know. You can enjoy all that God has even when you have some scars. Even when you have some scars.

Even when you have some scars.

And I know it's painful sometimes to reach back into the memories. It's painful sometimes to reach back to the origin of what it is that keeps you bound up.

I'm bragging on my daughter. I mean Megan when I first married Cheryl Megan was about 16 1516.

I told her. She couldn't go outside without makeup. Everything in place. I've never witnessed it before someone who was as

Are you doing? Give me 7 minutes and I can be ready. Come on guys saying that.

Nope, she would not go. She would not go years not days not weeks.

I would just up and got to worry about that. You ain't got to worry about that. She loves to dress up. She's got probably one of the most beautiful countenance has not told her this always have told her privately, but but I've walked with her. I know her journey because we walked it out together and we've had some rough places. She and I had some rough places. She thought she threw telephone with me one day. I know you can't believe that problem. Try to hit me in the head with telephone. We have had a journey. But she but the enemy had convinced her that just what God gave her made her was not enough. And the enslavement that she was in for years. She still working on some things like we all are can you say man? But man, it does my heart good she'll pull that hair back now, she'll put on some boots and go outside and she doesn't you know, she wants to look good. She still wants to dress up but she has come out of that but it took time because she grew up without the affirmation of a father. She grew up without a daddy. Helping her you're fine. You're beautiful just like you are. I don't know what your circumstances are. I don't know what your situation is. I don't know what your story is. Whatever it is, and I've gone way longer than I wanted to go, and I apologize, but I just felt in my spirit that today was extremely important for somebody to get in their spirit and in their head because of a covenant you don't have to listen to this culture and not let it Define your future and then let's break father. We love you. We thank you.

We thank you for your presence. We thank you for your power. And I thank you Lord for your

I thank you Lord that in stories like this in your word you bring such encouragement to us. because

the world is not kind in the way. It executes its judgment on us oftentimes whether it be in the comment section of a Facebook post or a snide remark amongst peers or whatever. It may be children will return to school with one of the worst fears in the world. And that is the peer pressure they have to deal with in the bullying and all that stuff and and it's a society trying to press us another mold in your word comes screaming through and says to us, but I made a covenant on your behalf. You don't have to worry about that because I made you something special. I made you with a purpose. I made you with a desk and no matter how many mistakes you've made. It doesn't release you from that destiny that I have for you. And what I just pray over the next couple of minutes that whatever people are contemplating in their heart right now the stuff that they think took them out of the ability to be used by you or even the ability to be loved by you. That's tough Lord. I pray God I pray that you will touch them that you will communicate to them. communicate to them your love your goodness your mercy communicate to them that it's not that you want us to stay in a broken State. It's not that you stay in a failed stop that you don't want us to live according to the levels in your work. When we're trying you are the perfect father that has our back loves us blesses us wrap your loving arms around us. And for whoever this morning Lord somebody at least one person some somebody and I love this about you God. You will redirect the whole service for one person. Somebody Lord has some stuff buried so deep. In those moments that they Revisited it's so painful. They simply cannot. And I pray that your Holy Spirit do what only your Holy Spirit can do bring healing to that. Healing first of all to that pain healing first of all to all of that that is inside bus and then Lord let us make a decision that we can't go back, but we can go forward and it is going to be different. Lord I thank you for that. And I believe it. In Jesus name if you're here this morning and and maybe maybe you're just say, you know what Reggie there's some stuff and it just it's just a real general statement, but you stay ready at there's some stuff in my in my life and in my past I need healing for what you just raise your hand. I need healing for some things in my past is thermal just just real quick up-and-down. I just I don't know. I don't know how to do that. But I just want that acknowledgment. I want you to be able to acknowledge and I want us to declare today that there's going to be a healing in your past to release you from that so that you can go forward and everything. I want you to put your hand on your heart everybody put your hand on your heart and I want you to say this with me dear Lord. I am free. From my past I am free from the pain.
