The simplest understanding of eternal security comes from our understanding of salvation.

When we understand what we did to receive salvation and what God did we clearly understand why our salvation continues through eternity.

Eternal security as related to the Father.

1. His purpose.

Romans 8:28–30 NKJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
If he foreknew you he predestined you.
He predestined you to be conformed to the image of the Son.
Vs 30 the en result is glorified.
How many of those he foreknew make it to the end - glorified?

2. His power.

Jude 24 NKJV
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
John 10:28–29 NKJV
28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
Can I remove myself from God’s salvation?
What about someone who renounces their faith in Christ?
Not too long ago an author and a singer have both publicly walked away from Christ.

Eternal security as related to the Son.

1. His death.

Colossians 2:13–14 NKJV
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
remember our 3 options God had as we stood in his courtroom.
Condemn the sinner
Compromise His own righteousness
Change them into a righteous person.
Also, the legal demands of sin had to be met.
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
To simply forgive would have compromised God’s righteousness.
Having wiped away the handwriting of requirements that was against us having nailed it to the cross.
Satan had legal rights to our lives.
Now Christ has legal rights to our lives.
Satan can’t come back to claim us.
Ephesians 1:7 NKJV
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

2. His life.

1 John 2:1 NKJV
1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Hebrews 7:25 NKJV
25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
Advocate means to call to one’s side.
For the sake of helping.
An advocate is a legal assistant - lawyer.
Christ comes alongside us and pleads our case before the judge.
Revelation 12:10 NKJV
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

Eternal security as related to the Holy Spirit.

1. He regenerates.

He gives new birth and new life.
If we lose our salvation we would lose that new birth and new life.

2. He indwells.

If we believe we can lose our salvation then we believe that the presence Holy Spirit can be removed from our lives.
Romans 8:35 NKJV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

3. He baptizes.

1 Corinthians 12:13 NKJV
13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
We are baptized into the body of Christ!
We cannot be detached from the body of christ.

4. He seals.

Ephesians 1:13 NKJV
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 4:30 NKJV
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
This verse explains better 1:13.
We are sealed until the day of redemption.
In biblical times a seal represented authenticity.
Romans 4:11 NKJV
11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also,
In biblical times a seal represented security.
Matthew 27:62–66 NKJV
62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.

5. He guarantees.

Ephesians 1:14 NKJV
14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
This speaks of earnest money.
This money is forfeited by the purchaser if purchase was not completed.
Romans 8:23–25 NKJV
23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
