Seemingly Inadequate
Seemingly Inadequate
. A couple of weeks ago as Ps Keith was preaching his Sunday sermon, he said two words, that the moment he said them God started to speak to me about tonight's message.
. instantly God started to explain to me these two words and the amazing truth about what God can do with something that is seemingly inadequate.
. Seemingly inadequate, If we are all being honest this is something that we have all felt and thought about ourselves before.
. That feeling that im not enough, i don't have enough, i couldn't possible do this thing because im just not enough on my own to do this.
. We can and do feel this way about many different aspects of life, we can feel like this in school im just not smart enough to pass this test/subject, with work, im just not capable im just not good enough to be able to do this job i have.
. or maybe its even our dream job that we have always wanted but when an opportunity arises we don't go for it because we feel seemingly inadequate.
. We also feel like this in our life with God, we don't feel like we are enough to do the things God is speaking to us about.
. we feel seemingly inadequate, like we could never possible be enough or do enough, or be good enough.
. but tonight i want to show you what God can do with something that is seemingly inadequate!
And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat.”
But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.”
And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”
. mention the boy (found in John 6) (he would of known what he had was inadequate)
. now done in verse 44 it tells us that 5 thousand men were feed here, then we need to add in the women and children, so lets just say lots!
. So looking at a number this large is very safe to say that 5 loaves of bread and two fish, even if there were massive fish, which is unlikely as they were being carried by a young boy. is seemingly inadequate for this situation.
. it is physically impossible to feed and satisfy this many people with so little, it is impossible that something so seemingly inadequate can fulfill the purpose that it was now given to do.
. 5 loaves and two fish feeding up to 10,000 people!
Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. So they all ate and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish.
. now watch what happens here!
. Jesus takes the 5 loaves and the two fish, Jesus takes what is seen by the disciples and by all around him as seemingly inadequate, he takes it and he looks up to heaven and Jesus blesses the seemingly inadequate offering.
. then he hands it back to his disciples to hand out to all the people and the scriptures says that all of them ate their fill, then they took up 12 baskets of full of leftovers.
. Something happen to that which was seemingly inadequate when it was placed into the hands of Jesus, and blessed by him.
. Here is some truth, on our own and in our own strength we don not have what it takes to fulfill the purpose of God for our life.
. and that's why we look at what we have to offer compared to what God may be asking us to do, that's why we look at opportunity but we don't go for it, because we feel as if we don't have the resources.
. We feel seemingly inadequate, to offer ourselves fully to God.
. But something seemingly inadequate that is given into the hands of Jesus and blessed by him becomes more then enough.
. our skills on their own may seem inadequate but given to Jesus and blessed by his hands becomes more than enough.
. our resources though seemingly not enough given into the hands of Jesus and blessed by him become more than enough.
. no offering or sacrifice given into the hands of Jesus, is not enough as long as its all that we are and all that we have.
. you may feel seemingly inadequate to fulfill the call of God on your life, you may feel inadequate to fulfill the dreams that have been placed in your heart.
. you may feel inadequate to serve you church and serve your God.
. But something seemingly inadequate given in the hands of Jesus and blessed by him becomes more than enough!
Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”
. This women put in much less than everyone else and in the eyes of other her offering was insignificant and inadequate.
. But Jesus knows that by giving all of herself, the not enough that she had will now become more than enough.
. Give all of your self to Jesus, though you may not feel like your enough you may feel seemingly inadequate for the tasks ahead and even your resources may feel inadequate.
. Put your seemingly inadequate into the hands of Jesus, and watch it become more than enough for you, and for those around you, as the things of the kingdom of God begin to flow through your life.
. and you begin to become what the people in your community need, you begin to be the change that world needs to see as your not enough becomes more than enough in the hands of Jesus.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
