Give Us This Day... bread
Give Us This Day Matt. 6:11 EBC Sunday School 4/30/06
Many times when things are going well we tend to forget about God. When times are bad we are reminded that we are absolutely dependent upon God.
The first part of the Lord’s Prayer centers on God and his glory. The following centers on things that concern us.
How does verses like Prov. 13:4, 2 Thess. 3:10, Eph. 4:28 relate to our praying for God to meet our basic needs?
1- we are dependent upon God to give us the ability to work
2- we are dependent on God to give us the health to work
3- we are dependent on God to make jobs available to us
I. Our Priorities
Everyone has a list of priorities, those things that are most important to us.
* Priorities of young adults are different from that of older ones.
* Priorities of the well may be different from those with a serious disease
One of the things that we must realize is that many times our priorities for us are different than God’s priorities for us. As Christians our priorities should be God’s.
A. First (Matt. 6:33)
1. When you wake up in the morning what is the first thing you think of? Your thoughts are a good indication of where your priorities are
a. Luke 9:23-
B. Faith (Matt. 6:25-32)
1. Our faith should rest squarely on God. We simply are not to worry but are to trust God.
2. Luke 12:6-7 – God considers us very important
C. Fact (Matt 6:24)
1. It’s amazing what people will do for money:
a. They will become traitors to their own country
b. They will become immoral
c. They will lie and steal
d. They will sacrifice the well being of their families
2. For many, money and the things money can buy becomes a god. Many times we want things that God may not want us to have. Ever thought God isn’t supplying the way we think he should.
D. Formula (Matt. 6:19-21)
II. Our Promises
A. Jesus said if you put God first all your needs will be met
1. Phil. 4:19 -
2. 2 Cor. 9:6-8 – if we give cheerfully and with the right attitude.
III. Our Petitions
A. We will realize the full impact of our prayers when our priorities are right. We ask Him for them because we realize He is the true source of our blessings.
1. Matt. 7:7-11-
