Genesis 6:5–14 ESV

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch.

Matt. 24, JC was speaking about the end of the age.

Condition of our world today causes even the unbeliever to use words such as apocalyptic

Devastation of COVID.

Beirut explosion.

Riots in the states.

Megafires in the Amazon, Australia, California

The world is like boiling cauldron, or maybe a dynamite ready to explode.

Many who thought about man creating a utopia have lost hope.

Today people are more insecure, anxious, uneasy, searching for hope and inner peace.

What was it like in the days of Noah?

Genesis 6:5 ESV

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

What is wickedness: Evil or morally wrong.

You know when you do something wrong.

There is an objective moral law that is universal

adultery and fornication

pornography

alcoholism and drug use

stealing, cheating, lying, deceiving

gossiping

Every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Have you set your heart to do only that which is evil?

Do you only think evil?

Many times we see evil around us. What about evil within us?

Mark 7:20–23 ESV

20 And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

Corruption

Genesis 6:11 ESV

11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.

Last week - election in Belarus. President Lukashenko held power for 26-yr and claims he won 80% votes.

This week, a coup in Mali -accusing Pres. Keita of allowing Mali's economy to collapse and of mishandling a spiraling security situation.

Presently a Russian opposition leader is fighting for his life in Germany, possibly poisoned by the Govt.

Here in Canada - SNC Lavalin affair and more recently, The We scandal.

Corruption in nations, businesses, corporations, kick-backs, nepotism.

Even religious organizations can be corrupt

What about you? Are you corrupt individual? bribery, cutting deals, cheating on taxes?

Indulgence

People were carrying on their lives, but not just ordinary living

instead there is the implication here of a life pleasure, partying, indulgence, sensuality

Like the Rich man - Let’s eat, drink and be merry.

Drugs, alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, Xanax, Ecstasy

running after the next high, ignoring families, jobs, health

2012 survey shows that 21.6% of Canada’s population meet the criteria for a substance use disorder. That is close to 8 million people suffering from addiction in Canada.

Unaware

Matthew 24:39 ESV

39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

not understanding the times, ignoring the signs all around, uninterested in their future, then BAM — the flood came.

You may say that isn’t fair - they didn’t know.

That’s not quite true

They had a witness

Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation

God saw the wickedness, corruption, sensual indulgence

HE was grieved to his heart

He planned to bring an end to the wickedness

But there was one righteous man - Noah

God had a man named Noah

Those who knew Noah witnessed his lifestyle.

They heard his preaching - Peter calls him a preacher of righteousness

They saw build the ark

As were the days of Noah

The world is larger today than Noah’s day.

The world is more wicked, rebellious, ungodly than Noah’s day

God will judge the world.

Jesus will return as He promised.

How can you save yourself? Be ready for his return?

There was only one means to be saved in Noah’s day - the ark

That ark had only one door.

God calls us to day to repent of our sins, our wicked ways, our lifestyle of ignoring Him.

Receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord

Find a local church and attend regularly
