F2F - From Now On!
Face to Face....
The good, the bad, and the ugly...
God’s Word transforms and conforms
In John chapter 7 - The foundation is laid
3 Major feast are talked about in the gospels out of 7
1 - Passover - A time to remember how God
2 - Pentecost - Feast of weeks / 50 days after passover, Isreal arrived to Mount Sinai (It was a giving of the law).
3 - Feast of Booths - The Feast of Tabernacles begins and ends with a special Sabbath day of rest. During the days of the feast all native Israelites were “to dwell in booths” to remind them that God delivered them out of the “land of Egypt” and to look forward to the coming Messiah.
During the feast of booths Jesus would not go to Judea because the “Jews” were seeking to kill Him.
His brothers who did’t believe in Him began to pressure Him to show himself to the world.
Jesus eventually goes up to the feast in private but…
He was the talk of the feast
And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.”
Jesus begins to teach in the temple
He begins to teach about being sent by God and doing the will of His Father.
The crowd from the feast was amazed by His teaching....
But… The pharisees were outraged
Even Nicodemus is questioned…
Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, “Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” They replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”
but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
This is so important… We are still during the feast.
“All the people came to him”
But the Pharisees and Scribes were still looking for accusations against Him to arrest him
The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
I’m going to give you 5 c’s
#1 Compel
Compel: bring about (something) by the use of force or pressure.
Face 2 Face with the word will expose those things that will compel us in the wrong direction.
“ A woman who had been caught in adultery”
Something about her and him! Drove them to do an act
Our flesh will compel us and drive to do things.....
“Every man is tempted when he’s drawn away by His own lust”
#2 Caught
What compelled her drove her to be caught....
What you desire will put you into situations where you can be caught!
But you are already caught up in what compelled you.
Remember..... They wanted to get Jesus caught up”
So they used a person who stay “ready”
#3 Condemned
“Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
“This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him.”
She was compelled / Then Caught / Now she is condemned
What do you do.... When what compels you, causes you to get caught and now condemnation.
Not only is it condemnation but she is exposed in front of everyone…
#4 Covered!
And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
Jesus responded this way… “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
One word messed me up......
HER
I’m not condoning her actions
I know what the Law says
I understand her punishment but…
But not only am I covering HER i’m covering you too....
Because once we stone HER for her sin....
Then we have to go down the list and bring punishment for your sins too…
Is anybody glad He covered you when you were caught and should have been condemned......
But are you glad that when you were on the other end judging someone else… He still covered you and didn’t expose you!
#5 Commissioned
Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
Condemn: to pronounce guilt and a punitive sentence on someone in a legal context.
“Neither do I condemn you”
“Go, and from now on sin no more.”
