Isa 6
God’s Glory Revealed in:
Righteousness / Holiness
Grace to Isaiah
Isaiah’s confession of Sin (His and the people)
Both ME, WE, and THEM
Atonement for Sin
Isa 42
Justice to the Nations
Spirit filled, chosen, delighted in servant
Humble, not making his name known
Compassionate and caring for the lowly
He will identify with them
Covenant to People / Light to Nations
restoration of the land / salvation to the ends of the earth
God’s Glory
Only God could do this
Worship of Him alone / not Idols.
Racial Justice in America
Racism is antithetical to God and his purposes (to the Nations, Isa 42:6, Gen 12:3)
Injustice:
God will bring Justice (Isa 42:1, 3, 4)
This is ultimate comfort (Isa 40:1, “Comfort, Comfort my people”
written to those who are being oppressed.
Only God can bring Justice
Human Sinfulness = Sinful Systems
True Justice only comes from God
The best human justice is based on God’s justice
Secular Justice vs. Biblical
all humans are sinful
Both and / not either or
How does God bring justice?
Suffering Servant — Transformed Hearts.

Outline 4

Isa 6 review/overview (glory, grace, idolatry)
Racial Justice
Three Parts of Isaiah
Isa 42
Racism — God is for all peoples — racism antithetical to God’s purpsoes
Justice
Comfort: Jesus will bring justice
Pursue Justice like Jesus
In humility (Isa 42:2)
(care for poor) - Isa 42:3
Jesus experienced injustice (Isa 42:4, Isa 53)
For all peoples.
How did he bring Justice?
Final Judgment (all are bad, only one good)
Covenant — Jesus makes a way (Isa 42:6)
Light to nations (salvation to end of earth) Isa 42:6, 49:6
Breaks idolatry and restores worship to God (Isa 42:7-8)
Injustice is rooted in idolatry (worship of false God)
racism rooted in idolatry
Our greatest need is spiritual deliverance from worship of idols and demons (spiritual darkness)
Jesus does this at Cross / Atonement of Isa 6
Justice at Cross or in Hell
We need to confess our own sin

Application

Have to be wise and discerning
Only the Church can approach biblical justice
Secular Justice cannot b/c it doesn’t taken into account the true picutre
human beings are not born good in need of slight corrections
we are sinners in need of a savior
We need to believe in the God of justice and that justice is based on his character.
We need to take a both/and approach not an either/or
narrow path not wide
My sin and their Sin
individual and systemic
We need to live as Jesus lived
for the poor, marginziled, orphans and widows, for the oppressed
We need to lay down our lives as he did
set aside our ‘privelege and status’ to serve those in need, this has always been the way of the church
We stand for justice as he did, but we do so biblically.
We need to repent of our idolatry
Fear to speak out or be wrong
sin in our hearts, unwillingness or laziness
We have to walk the hard and narrow path
we’ve got to read and be discerning
find authors you trust.

Outline

Justice on Earth
ONly Jesus will bring the JUstice we long for
No system on earth is without sin, becuase they are all made from sinful people.
some secular approaches do not hold a biblical worldview
doesn’t mean their views are wrong
just means they don’t take into account human sinfulness
human beings are not basically good needing some policies, they are bad in need of a savior.
addressing both and not either or

Racism
Isa 42
Middle section in Isaiah, 1-39, 40-55, 56-66
Having a Kingdom Vision in regards to the sin of racism.

God’s Global Purposes

Isaiah 6:3 CSB ...his glory fills the whole earth.

his glory. This is a technical term for God’s manifest presence with his covenant people.

ESV footnote suggests that the seraphic cry shares this anticipation.

Or may his glory fill the whole earth

Point: God’s plan is that his Glory will one day fill the whole earth.
How? Isaiah 49:6
Isaiah 49:6 CSB 6 he says, “It is not enough for you to be my servant raising up the tribes of Jacob and restoring the protected ones of Israel. I will also make you a light for the nations, to be my salvation to the ends of the earth.”
Therefore: God’s Plan has always included all peoples —> Racism antithetical to God’s purposes in the world.
This is not a surprise: See:
Genesis 12:3 CSB 3 I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
Support: This is exactly what we will see in the end: Revelation
Revelation 7:9 CSB 9 After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands.

Repentance from Sin

The root of racism is Idolatry
You cannot Worship the God of the Nations and your RACE at the same time.
It’s ultimately self-worship
Romans 3:29 CSB
29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too,
The Gospel runs counter to this on every front.
Jesus was an Poor, Ethnic Jew from a meaningless town under the oppression of the Roman Empire.
