Preparing the way for Jesus means to know the way and walk in the way NOT get in the way or out of the way.
So, last week, we kicked off this new series we’re doing called “Prepare The Way!” And this means we are expectant, we are ready, we’re gonna get ready, we are in anticipation of Jesus to do something in this crazy season we are in right now. There are so many things we don’t really have control over, but He does. And we are gonna be prepared, get prepared, and help others make room for Jesus.
I shared with you guys about that one time I met LeBron James when he played for the Miami Heat during their historic white hot season of 27 straight wins being the second longest winning streak for the NBA.
Now, unfortunately, that meeting with LeBron was not what we anticipated LOL! But…it was still cool to be in the presence of greatness.
I would like to begin tonight’s message with a scenario.
Here’s the scenario. So we’re back at that arena and the announcer is getting ready to introduce LeBron James. BUT - the polar opposite happens in what we’d expect.
LeBron steps onto the court out into the arena and it’s dead silent. Crickets. The fire towers I talked about blow flames, there’s background music - BUT....nothing from the audience. Just super quiet. EVEN worse in some parts of the stadium…people are ASLEEP!!
How awkward would that be if one of the most popular celebrities you knew, was out and about in the public, and no one cared?
Well here’s the thing.... GOD Himself came in the flesh to us and there was a mixture of responses. Some people were indeed responding the right way with gratefulness, praise, and followed him. However, some people had NO idea or even worse they slept on Jesus?!
Man, that’s frustrating to me. The Savior of the World and the Savior of my Soul came to us and sometimes we miss it, ignore it, or sleep on it.
In this series Prepare The Way, here’s my question for tonight - why and how could anyone miss, sleep on, or ignore the good news of Jesus coming to help us and save us?
Let’s look at something.
1 John 1:1–4 ESV
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
Okay.
So what does it sound like is going on here?
....let some kids answer...
So the author here is giving us a close-up of walking with Jesus. He’s letting us know this really happened because he wants us to be a part of it and have joy.
