The Gift of His Presence
2 Sam 6
----------------------
2 Sam 5.17-25
17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. 18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 19 And David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.” 20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. And he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me like a breaking flood. Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim. 21 And the Philistines left their idols there, and David and his men carried them away. 22 And the Philistines came up yet again and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 23 And when David inquired of the Lord, he said, “You shall not go up; go around to their rear, and come against them opposite the balsam trees. 24 And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then rouse yourself, for then the Lord has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.” 25 And David did as the Lord commanded him, and struck down the Philistines from Geba to Gezer.

WE WANT GOD’S PRESENCE
WE NEED GOD’S PRESENCE
WE ARE BLESSED BY GOD’S PRESENCE

Prayer

God our father in heaven as we think of the songs we just sang about how you have arrested death from having ultimate power over us, how you have invited us to come to your altar and have fellowship with you because of your grace that has been poured down over us. LORD as we have sung so now let us read and meditate on the truth that we not only long for your presence, must have your presence but are even blessed by your presence. Father let this not be in the category of prosperity gospel messages but rather help us through your spirit to view the blessing of your presence in the fullest sense this morning. Give us the attitude of David and Obed-edom today and forevermore we pray! Amen…
2 Samuel 6:1–4 ESV
1 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts who sits enthroned on the cherubim. 3 And they carried the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, 4 with the ark of God, and Ahio went before the ark.
1 Chron 13-16 - this is where it is also…
name of the LORD of hosts sits enthroned the cherubim...
Ark here for a long time… mentioned once in 1 Sam 14...
1 Samuel 6:20–7:2 ESV 20 Then the men of Beth-shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before the Lord, this holy God? And to whom shall he go up away from us?” 21 So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and take it up to you.” 1 And the men of Kiriath-jearim came and took up the ark of the Lord and brought it to the house of Abinadab on the hill. And they consecrated his son Eleazar to have charge of the ark of the Lord. 2 From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-jearim, a long time passed, some twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.
carried on NEW CART… not thew way He declared
Exodus 25:14 ESV 14 And you shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark by them.
2 Samuel 6:5–7 ESV
5 And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. 6 And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God.
It’s all fun and games until someone gets struck dead...
2 Samuel 6:8–10 ESV
8 And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
We often want the God who fights for us and not the God who is Holy and Righteous
We want the Jesus who has come for social justice not the Jesus who has come for spiritual judgement
The beginning of wisdom is fear of the LORD...
2 Samuel 6:11–12 ESV
11 And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household. 12 And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing.
2 Samuel 6:13–15 ESV
13 And when those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. 14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

2 Samuel 6:17–19 ESV
17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 18 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts 19 and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed, each to his house.
2 Samuel 6:16 ESV
16 As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.
2 Samuel 6:20–23 ESV
20 And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ female servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” 21 And David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord—and I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.” 23 And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
How foolish
2 Samuel 6:11–12 ESV
11 And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household. 12 And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing.
2 Samuel 6:9–12 ESV
9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
Presence of God in Israel
Exodus 33:14–16 ESV
14 And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?”
Presence of God in Christ
Matthew 1:23 ESV
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
Presence of God in Spirit
John 16:13 ESV
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Presence of God in Heaven
Revelation 7:15–17 ESV
15 “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Ephesians 2:8 ESV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
He will never leave nor forsake
No one and nothing can separate
He is our shield and our defense
He is our Hope and our Peace
He is the Lion and the Lamb
He is the first and the Last
By Him, through Him and For Him
The Gift of His Presence is His presence itself
Do you know this God? Have you experienced His presence? Do you want to?

Prayer

Won’t you pray with me...
Oh our great and awesome God. God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Our Father in Heaven who’s name is Holy. Thank you for sending your son to take upon himself my own sin. To place upon Him my punishment. To shower me with Your great grace and mercy. God I come and confess before you that I am not worthy of you, and yet you love me. If I had been left to myself I would not have chose you and yet you chose me. Father if left to myself I would not be fit to enter into your presence but through Christ You choose to give me the gift of your presence. God cause my heart to be in awe of you, to treat you with reverence and yet sing and dance in your presence because of my love for you and your love for me. Father help me to never be ashamed of and even seek more of your presence in my life. We praise you!… Amen
My LORD may you use this message to proclaim your power, glory, and goodness so that some might come to know you as their own personal LORD and savior. For those that know you, may this message cause their hearts to rejoice anew with the comfort of your presence! Amen
