How To Live Like a King’s Kid (Romans, Part 7)
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Many of God’s children live below their privileges as King’s Kids.
That’s why we’re studying the book of Romans – it tells us how to access the royalty that is already within us through the power of God’s Spirit.
One of the regular problems I see with fellow Apostolics is negativity.
Negative people are a problem.
Being negative is a problem which is why the enemy uses it against us so much and so often!
Illustration: negative people / pictures from www.despair.com
Dreams are like rainbows, Only idiots chase them!
If a pretty poster and a cute saying are all it takes to motivate you, you probably have a very easy job, the kind robots will be doing soon!
Ambition: The journey of a thousand miles sometimes ends very badly
Incompetence: When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there is no end to what you can NOT do.
A few harmless snowflakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction!
Elitism: It’s lonely at the top. But is’s comforting to look down upon everyone at the bottom!
Adversity: That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable
Mistakes: It could be that the only purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others
At some point, hanging in there makes you look like an even bigger looser!
Government: If you think the problems we create are bad, just wait till you see our solutions!
Negativity is one of the great destroyers on our lives…
Which is why we have special protections and provision to overcome it as a child of the king!
NO CONDEMNATION
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Any time you see “therefor” in the bible, you should ask yourself the question; “What is “therefore” there for? “
By simple definition, therefore introduces a result, consequence, or conclusion based on what has been established previously.
Chapters 1-7 teach us that we cannot achieve salvation through keeping the Law, and that our only hope is God’s GRACE.
Now, the “SPIRIT” is mentioned nearly twenty times in chapter 8, because it is the Holy Ghost – not our own efforts – that enables us to live a victorious Christian life.
LAST WEEK: TWO LAWS (SIN/SPIRIT; GRAVITY/AERODYNAMICS)
The law of the Spirit doesn’t destroy the law of sin but overcomes it.
Sometimes I make mistakes and fall – NOT I, BUT SIN IN ME.
But I have a new nature within me – NOT I, BUT CHRIST IN ME.
I am winning my personal war on sin ONE BATTLE AT A TIME.
The Holy Ghost operates through CONVICTION, not CONDEMNATION.
They “feel” the same, but come from different sources and have totally different results in our lives – so we should react to them differently.
Condemnation vs Conviction
Tangible sense of guilt - Tangible sense of guilt
Because of your sin and failures vs Because of your sin and failures
Con = (verb) persuade, trick or cajole
Con -”damned” - Con-”vinced”
Comes from the Devil - Comes from God
Pushes us from repentance - Pulls us to repentance
We should resist condemnation - We should embrace conviction
Where does this sense of guilt lead you?
To an alter?
To the bar?
To the people of God or the House of God?
To your old friends?
To your pastor?
To your old addictions?
NO OBLIGATION to our past life!
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
You don’t owe your flesh anything – KILL ITS SINFUL DEEDS!
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Spirit of adoption gives us a “Joint Checking Account” with Jesus!
NO FRUSTRATION
Sometimes the process can be confusing...
Feel somewhat lost...
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
The Holy Spirit prays through us when we don’t know how to pray.
Praying in the Spirit is like praying in a code the devil can’t break!
Learn to pray in the spirit!
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Our circumstances are like the ingredients of a cake – they are not all good, but they all work together to achieve a good result!
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
God doesn’t predestinate INDIVIDUALS, but He does predestinate GROUPS of individuals.
You just have to choose to join the right group!
NO SEPARATION
Sometimes our circumstance can make us whiney...
Sometimes we have the attitude of JACOB ...
36 And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.
But we need to have the attitude of JOB ...
8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; And backward, but I cannot perceive him:
9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: He hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
10 But he knoweth the way that I take: When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The only power that can put DISTANCE (“separate”) between you and God is not the devil, not the world, not circumstances – only YOU.
