HG Study Guide. Crucified with CHRIST.
Reading: Galatians 2:15-21
Involvement: JESUS took our guilt onto
Himself – so that our guilty selves have been
punished in IN CHRIST.
Have you died to the law? 19 “For through
the law I died to the law so that I might live for
God.
HE was the judge that took the penalty on
HIMself – and suffered the execution.
The OT Rules for a Jew were meant to
be a way of living that was excellent to
aim at; but it was not meant to be a
way of Salvation. It couldn’t be. Why
not?
Read Paul’s testimony in Romans 7:7-10
So, let’s accept our death to self-justification
– we are dead to the anxious striving to be
justified by our own efforts. Accept that
JESUS is our righteousness – submit to your
‘death’ and begin to LIVE!
How do we show that we have
grasped this in our daily living – and
how does it show when we are not
grasping this?
What has happened to your old guilty
self?
Who lives in you now? Galatians 2:20
What or who does GOD see when HE
looks at us now? [And HE sees you all
the time!]
Why is that so amazingly wonderful?
How does it affect the way we treat
ourselves and the way we are to live?
Imagine that you are sharing the
Gospel with a religious person – and
they clearly believe that salvation is
achievable through obeying the rules
of their religion. Using Galatians 2:1521, how could you help them?
The conviction of Paul’s coveting was the
way that the law caused Paul to realise that
he was ‘dead’ in sins.
How did that ‘death’ enable Paul to
‘live’; where did he eventually turn for
justification? Why was that infinitely
better than where he was trusting
before?
Read Acts 26:12-15 It seems likely that Paul
was resisting the conviction that he was
spiritually dead and needed to trust in
JESUS.
What positive thing might be
happening if people get angry with us
for being CHRISTians?
Crucified with CHRIST: 2:20 I have been
crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but
CHRIST lives in me.
As you are very much alive reading
this, how can you have been crucified
with CHRIST?
Think it through:
Incarnation: The Son of GOD took on real
humanity. Still Divine, but one of us!
Identification: JESUS lived as one of us,
representing us, but perfectly obeying His
own laws.
[That enabled Him to be the perfect sacrifice.]
