1. We are called to prayer for others
1. We are called to prayer for others
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
All men in this scripture is not just the male the greek word here is mankind a majority of the time when the bible says men it means mankind so you ladies don’t get offended because both genders here are included.
Supplication to ask humbly.
Why?
a. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.
a. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.
God says praying humbly and advocating for other’s in prayer is a good thing.
In the Old Testament before we had the unmerited favor of Jesus Christ the might men and women of God stood in the gap for the people of God against God’s judgment and the bible records that he changed his mind about the judgment in some cases.
Abraham intercedes for Sodom and Gomorrah where His nephew Lot lived. Genesis 18: 16-33 Abraham negotiates with God about his plan to destroy the city and he asks the Lord if he would destroy the city if this many people were righteous he talks God down to if he finds 10 righteous people. However God does not find 10 and he still destroys the city. Some scholars believe that God was willing to spare 10,000 people for 10 righteous people based on the demographics of that day.
Ester likewise interceded on behalf of the Jewish people with the King praying that when she went before the king he would hear her and not kill her for going into his court with out being summoned. In Chapter 8
Then one of my favorite stories is Moses the whole story. He didn’t want to be the leader of the Hebrews and after he becomes what God calls him to he is willing to give his whole life for them.
And the Lord said to Moses, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ ”
And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people!
Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.”
Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said: “Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and relent from this harm to Your people.
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”
So the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.
Moses could have let God destroy the people who had already moved back to their false Gods’ and God would have made him a great nation v.10 but he begged the lord to save the wicked people and God relented ( changed his mind) and did not bring the harsh judgment on the people he just saved from Pharaoh.
Another interesting fact from our Old Testament lessons is in Job. Everyone knows the story of Job
And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Job prays for others and his troubles his storm is over. Is it possible that God is waiting on you to stop focusing on your problem and pray for other’s because he has a solution.
2. How do we pray for others?
2. How do we pray for others?
Well if we are going to intercede on behalf of other’s what do we pray for?
Any number of things as God leads us.
Healing
Heartbreak
Financial Stability
Emotional Control
Better Relationships or Marriage
Their Ministry
Their Job
Their Spiritual well being
Traveling- There is an overwhelming conviction of emotion that will tell you what you need to pray for.
Praying on the routes
The other morning in church- felt feelings of unworthiness that were not my own. Sometimes you can feel the other peoples emotions through the Holy Spirit Connection.
Do Not interceded on someones behalf unless you are sure it is God. Test the Spirits make sure its not you and it’s not an influence of the demonic. ( it’s very important prayer is so we need to make sure when we are standing in the gap for someone in this capacity that we take it very seriously.)
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
If you speak in tongues; the spirit knows exactly what to say because the Holy Spirit is speaking directly through you to God. But anything we say consciously we need to be mindful of. Because our Words have Power.
The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me......lie from the pit of hell. So we wouldn’t control our mouths.
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Side note: Just take a few more seconds and think before you speak if your emotional take 5 more min. Oh the damage to souls we could save if we would just take a few more minuets before we speak out of our emotions.
That verse should say “ But no man can tame the “emotions”. they are unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
But Pastor Deadra I am only human, No mamm, No sir you are a supernatual being cause God put his super on your natural you are a child of the king a prince and princess heir to the kingdom of heaven.
The way we speak, act, dress and think needs to reflect were we come from or The World won’t see the difference.
If we talk like them, act like them, dress like them, think like them how can they see him.
You got to change your mind set to be an intercessor in every area of your life or you can’t see what a hurting sinful world needs because its normalized even to you.
a. What are we doing?
a. What are we doing?
We are mediating, advocating between a person we know and God based on their needs or desires.
Intercession is not praying against enemies or wanting them to fall in fact the bible says
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
We are not supposed to pray for our enemies demise we are supposed to pray for them with Love.
Intercession is not praying for people to change for our benefit or because they make us uncomfortable if it’s not lead by God it’s lead by the flesh.
Intercession is not seeking forgiveness for people or seeking salvation outside of their own will. What i mean by that is we can pray that they find forgiveness from their sins and that they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior but we cannot intercede on their behalf where those decision are made without their conscious decision to make that choice. Some faiths and religions think that you can seek those things on behalf of those who are unwilling or who are deceived and as much as that would be nice we cannot do anything to save someone or gain forgiveness for them outside of their own free will and decision.
If the Holy Spirit lives in your Christian brother or sister in Christ you can pray for them on any number of level of things and God will convict them move things in their life to influence them and break them etc. He has a desire to see all people getting their selves together and at that point all we can do is pray for them until they have willingness and it may not be you that they get willing with.
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
We are the righteousness because of Jesus Christ
even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
3. Jesus is our example
3. Jesus is our example
Let’s look at the model prayer Jesus gives us.
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Notice this prayer does not say: My father in heaven, Give me my daily bread,
forgive me my debts, forgive my debtors, lead me not temptation. deliver me from evil.....
Jesus model prayer includes others.
He interceded for the disciples in prayers recorded in John and he even prays for us before we existed.
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.
And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
Jesus prays for us and on the cross he prayed for those who put him there saying “ Father forgive them for they know not what they do.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.
In Isaiah he mentions is this verse that no one interceded for the house of Israel. So God sent the ultimate intercessor Jesus. And many times while he was on this earth it is recorded that he went to pray but it does not always say what he prays about but i am sure he interceded for the whole world. We should follow Jesus example in how and what to pray. Its all through out the gospels.
Intersession is for everyone. We should all be praying for one another.
There are some that are specially gifted to feel and know when to do so but it the body of Christ responsibility to pray for the lost, fellow brothers and sisters, our world, and all number of things. Remember we are ambassadors of Christ representatives of the Heaven’s home office here on earth and we are the ones who can make a difference in the world through our prayers.
The old acronym from back in the 90’s is still a great way to live WWJD
What would Jesus Do? How would he speak, how would he carry himself, dress, how would he act, what would he pray for, and if you don’t know what Jesus Would do read the Bible it will tell you.
