Explanation

Exodus 40:34–38 NLT
Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle. Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle. Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it. But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted. The cloud of the Lord hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.
Tabernacle Completed
In the process of completing the tabernacle the people of Israel were hearing from God on a regular basis.
-God would speak to Moses and show him what he wanted done
-God was very specific in setting standards and specifications for exactly how he wanted every detail of the tabernacle from the cloth that was used for the walls to the details of what he wanted the priests to wear.
-God gave great care to talk with Moses and give him the details of what he wanted.
-These specifications marked the beginning of the people of Israel working as one with God.
-When you see throughout the OT where the people have sinned in regards to this covenant there are consequences.
-It broke the relationship that was established all the way back to Abraham and the covenant of blood needed to be restored.
-BUT THIS IS ALL INSIDE THE COVENANT RELATIONSHIP THAT GOD HAD ONLY WITH ISRAEL AT THIS TIME.
Outside of the camp to Inside the camp
-Chapter 33 we read about God being present in the tent of meeting outside the camp.
-God would meet with Moses in this tent or on the mountain
-God talked about Israels sin in this chapter and how he didn’t want to be with them because of their wickedness he didn’t want to destroy them.
-this was after they had just made a golden idol and said this was the god who saved them.
-Moses interceded for the people a couple times and we remember God showed mercy......not complacency, because there still was a consequence for their actions, but God remained in relationship with the people.
-the people of Israel repented of their sins and in the process of cooperating with God through Moses
-The ornaments or earrings and jewelry that were used to make the golden idol were destroyed, but God used the same type of ornamental jewelry in order to make various pieces of the tabernacle.
-This is a story of redemption.....God used the very same pieces that were used for evil and he redeemed them for his purposes.
-As the people of God cooperated with him in the work he was setting before them they were being made Holy through working out this covenant God had set before them.
-When the Tabernacle was finished God’s presence settled on the camp and the cloud, the presence of God that had been outside the camp.....now dwelt among the people.
-There was restoration and relationship where before there was damage and Darkness
The people had come from Darkness to Light with the help and guidance of God’s presence and
-the people of Israel went from a hurried people who were willing to leave a God who they thought left them......through the process of covenant and cooperation.
-They became a people who would not leave without the presence of God.
Application
Psalm 139:23–24 NLT
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
1. Search Me- soaking in the presence of the Spirit
2. Know Me- open and vulnerable with Jesus
3. Test Me - prepare my heart for what you will
4. Show Me - expose where Im not like you
5. Lead Me - through your speaking and showing I will change to match your character
-The hearts of the people who had moved on quickly when there was something didn’t seem right at the mountain now became people who wouldn’t move without the presence of God leading.
Bottom Line: We need to be people who move with the Presence of God
