God wants to to do above and beyond. He needs us to prepare for the harvest. It has been my experience that the harvest, the catch, and the provision require preparation.
The question is not will God do it? It is will we be ready?
The Bible says the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.
2 Kings 4:1 KJV 1900
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
Unnamed Widow was not
able to own anything
was unable to earn
Her sons would be sold to pay the debt.
2 Kings 4:2 KJV 1900
And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
The oil was something she had in her home.
Told to use what she had.
Get Ready! Get prepared!
2 Kings 4:3 KJV 1900
Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
She was told to borrow, use with intention of returning.
Vessels were common items.
The man of God was getting her ready to handle what she was asking for. HANDLE WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR
YOU CAN HAVE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT BUT YOU HAVE TO BE READY TO CARRY IT.
Shut the world out.
2 Kings 4:4 KJV 1900
And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
widow got alone with her sons.
Your family is going to be part of this.
They did their part. He did His part.
2 Kings 4:5–6 KJV 1900
So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
She got all she asked for
You can have whatsoever you ask for in His name - John 16:23
John 16:23 KJV 1900
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
John 14:13 KJV 1900
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Say it and you’ll have it
Mark 11:24 KJV 1900
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
We will get what we can carry.
Do you want the youth to be raised up?
Do we want to see people come out of cults into the Kingdom?
Do we want souls won and blind eyes opened?
2 Kings 4:7 KJV 1900
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
Go - sounds like the Great Commission.
Sell - take what he’s given you and use it in the marketplace to share what’s happened.
Illustration - Cail took time to pray with water utility person.
Illustration - Businessman asked how IH and IC started. GOD.
Above and Beyond
John 10:10 KJV 1900
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
1 Corinthians 2:9 KJV 1900
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Luke 19:13 KJV 1900
And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
In the end, the widow had more than she asked for and everything she prepared for. She had enough to
pay the debt
provide for herself
care for her family until they could care for themselves.
