Intro

The most common theological interpretation of new/old wineskin is the old covenant vs. the new covenant.
makes sense huh?! you couldn’t fit J in an old system without breaking it. first He was already there (types and shadows) He came
If the past traditions, experiences, victories, etc are excused it will be a tragedy akin to trying to fit the new expression, the new wine into old skin.
The takeaway was the new model, is here. With an admonition not to try to go back to what was when God’s here.
And so the choice remains yours’.
Last week, it was the making of the wineskin. This week, let’s look at the topic of wine.
Throughout the Scriptures, wine is symbolic of God’s grace and our resultant joy
Summary of Deut 7: You’re going to have great success. God’s going to del the enemies into your hands. Don’t intermarry
Deuteronomy 7:4–5 NKJV
4 For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly. 5 But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire.
Deuteronomy 7:12–13 NKJV
12 “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers. 13 And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you.
Throughout the Scriptures, wine is symbolic of God’s grace and our resultant joy
wine is about celebration. after you’ve come through, it’s time to party
Prophecy: You aren’t going to want to go back when the party starts!

John 2

They’d run out but somebody’d invited Him.
Point 1: Whenever He’s there, you don’t worry about grace or joy.
I know we’re supposed to be talking about wine, but you can’t talk about the wine without talking about the water.
Wedding party. Everyone is blown away by the quality of the wine.
John 2:10 NKJV
10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
Q: But where did the wine come from?
John 2:6–7 NKJV
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
If there’d been no water, there’d been no wine.
Water is seen in Scripture as that which washes and cleanses.
Christians are baptized with or in water, symbolizing a purification of the soul
Water popularly represents life.
It can be associated with birth, fertility, and refreshment. In a Christian context, water has many correlations.
The New Covenant
Every time we drink and eat, we remind ourselves what He did.
The New Wine skin
Ephesians 5:26 NKJV
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
I see you in the text, me too!
John 2:6–7 NKJV
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.

In the New Season:

Get Ready for the Filling and the Dipping
these pots were used 1. to pour water out to wash hands before a meal. 2. used as dish washer.
rocky, stoney, callous, hard
App: God takes His clean and puts it stoney hard, calloused places and pours out grace and joy. God puts His HS in you to make it possible to obey Him so He can take your dirty life let it hold fresh water that’s ends up being something to serve.
this wasn’t by mistake. He could’ve raised someone from the dead, etc.
Unconventional Usage
Water is what you need to get the wine that you want.
ergo. you’ve got to be washed, cleaned up to have grace and joy.
What’s your point?
A: He was starting the new era, the new skin with a sign, “this season will be full of grace and joy because of what I’ve come to do!”
B: He was showing that His grace and joy will be transported in something new.
THERE IS NO GRACE OR JOY IN THE OLD WAY!!!!!
It was there but no longer!
Ordered Opportunity
The right moment comes - wrong time, no wine
John 2:10 NKJV
10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”

Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
