The Blood Covenant
The Blood Covenant
The Lion and the Rabbit
A Lion met a Tiger
as they drank beside the pool.
Said the Tiger to the Lion,
"Why do you roar like a fool?"
"That's not foolish," said the Lion,
With a twinkle in his eyes,
"They call me the king of beasts,
Because I advertise!"
A Rabbit heard them talking,
And ran home like a streak.
He thought he'd try the Lion's plan,
But his roar was just as sqeak.
A Fox then heard the Rabbit.
He had dinner in the woods.
So when you advertise, my friends,
Be sure you've got the goods!
Genesis 17:14 (ESV)
Any male who fails to be circumcised will be cut off from the covenant family for breaking the covenant.”
14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
Contained in the Covenant are the sign of the ratification of the covenant, the conditions of the covenant and the remedies for breaking the covenant. The covenant with Noah was a general covenant for all flesh, both animal and human and was signified by a “bow” A bending. An overarching sign that covered everyone.
The first covenant of election was with Abraham and this time God “Cut Covenant” with Abraham, signifying that if the covenant was broken, that person would be “cut off” from God. But the term “Cut” also signifies the bringing together of two. think of the word “cleave”. It can mean to cut something in two or it can mean to bring the two pieces together. When God “Cut Covenant” with Abraham God’s part of the covenant was without question. God cannot lie. God cannot go back on His Word. So Abraham had to demonstrate his adherence to the covenant by blood. By circumcision.
1 Samuel 18:3 (ESV)

1 Samuel 18:1–4 (ESV)
As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.

Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.
11 Ziba replied, “Yes, my lord the king; I am your servant, and I will do all that you have commanded.” And from that time on, Mephibosheth ate regularly at David’s table, like one of the king’s own sons.
