Today we start into a new series looking into the character and nature of God so we can better understand, appreciate and have reverence for Him.
Work it out (Php2:12)
Paul says this
12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
If you are to work out your salvation, you need to understand your salvation, to understand your salvation you need to understand Jesus so you can understand the Father in whom Jesus came, lived and died so we could be reconciled with Him.
Work out knowing his name is excellent (Ps8:1)
1 O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
He created all things and displayed all things so we can know His nature, His attributes through the things created (Rom1:20-21)
Work it out to grow to the fulness of God (Eph3:18-19)
God wants us to know Him, to trust him, Jesus wants us to receive Him (the Father) through Him. Paul wants us to work it out (Php1:12) so we can grow, to know, to comprehend the fulness of God.
18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
To know, to comprehend so we can grow comes comes with:
To know Jesus and the power of his resurrection (PHp3:10)
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
Because it is of first importance (1Cor15:3-4)
Paul says we come to know Him through the gospel which is the power to save (Rom1:16) and it is of first importance
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
(Transition) So, as we go through this mighty God series my aim is to look at the character, nature of God and Jesus and help us to deepen our understanding so to deepen our walk with Him. This morning we are looking at the Mighty God who gave it all, the one who keeps on giving, this is the one we serve!
The Mighty God who gave it all!
The Mighty God who gave it all!
May we look at the mighty God this morning, He gave it all (Jn3:16) because of His love for the world. But let’s go beyond that today.
He gave it all in the Son (Jn3:16; Isa9:6-7)
He gave it all in giving his only begotten Son (Jn3:16)
He gave it all with the Son being called mighty God (Isa9:6-7)
But the Isaiah passage is so sweet looking at some of the names given, I can’t just reference it.
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
He gave it all so to give all spiritual blessings (Eph1:3)
He gave it all for His word is true and His answer is yes and amen (2Cor1:20)
20 Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident.
He gave it all in Jesus who gave it all by laying down His life for us (Jn15:13-15)
13 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.

14 “You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15 “No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
That is what we are, friends, no longer slaves, but through the Son we are redeemed! Jesus did exactly what the Father told Him and because of the cross of Calvary we are friends and we are son’s adopted into the family of God, the mighty God through the sacrifice of the Son who gave it all for us.
He gave it so we will delight in Him, commit to him (Ps37:4-5); so we will trust and rely on Him (Pro3:5-6)
4 Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
I know I gave you the answer before the scripture but hey, I think it’s OK this time, but let me give you another passage which is pretty familiar but helps us to know our part of coming to know the Mighty God.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
Our Mighty God wants us to trust Him, with all our heart, don’t trust yourself and your ways, your own understanding, trust Him, acknowledge Him and receive direction from Him that will lead you on the straight path.
(Transition): Might God who gave it all in Jesus, Jesus who gave it all for you, but wait there is more Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving.

As if salvation were not enough, right? God wants to give us more, more then every spiritual blessing (Eph1:3) may we look at some of the other gifts.
Keeps covenant even in times of trouble (Neh9:32)
32 “Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness, Do not let all the hardship seem insignificant before You, Which has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers and on all Your people, From the days of the kings of Assyria to this day.
Question: look at (Neh9:32) what characteristics about our mighty God do you see?
He is great, mighty, awesome, keeps covenant and lovingkindness, he is inclusive of all people
He makes us more than conquerors (Rom8:37)
To conquer our fleshly habits (Gal5:19-21)
So we can resist temptation (1Cor10:13)
Let me give you at least one of the passages
13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
God is faithful, God will provide a way of escape when we are tempted.
He is the God of peace that wants to give us peace (Jn14:27; Rom5:1; Php4:7)
27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Through Jesus we have peace with God (Rom5:1)
Having been justified by faith we have peace with God.
It is peace that surpasses all understanding, comprehension (Php4:7)
He gives the power to be transformed (Rom12:1-2)
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
He wants to transform us from the inside out. From our ind, from our heart so then our hands can know and apply the good, acceptable and perfect will of our Mighty God.
Our mighty God gives us a new heart and a new spirit. (Eze36:26)
26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
It comes with humility, in humility when we know how mighty He is
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
He is mighty God who will exalt us at proper time (1Pt5:6)
Our mighty God sent Christ to die for us
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Our mighty God while we were dead made us alive (Eph2:4-4). Seated us in the heavenly places (Eph2:6)
Now that leads me to the reason our Mighty God did this
7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Question: Why did God make us alive when we were dead (Eph2:4) and seat us in the heavenlies (Eph2:6) when you look at (Eph2:7)?
That we may be shown the surpassing riches of His grace!
(transition) it is by grace through faith in which we are saved so no man may boast (Eph2:8-9) and when we are born again (Jn3:5) we are able to serve Him and that is our next thing to look at before closing out this introduction today
What a mighty God we serve
What a mighty God we serve
Our mighty God is higher than the mountain, brighter than the sun. His grace reaches us so we can do good works he created us to do (Eph2:10).
You were created, you were saved for good works (Eph2:10)
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
God had a plan, a purpose, a scheme and He sent Jesus for all things are summed up in Him. He is the Way, the truth and the life and so much more.
His grace made a way for your entrance into heaven (2Pt1:10-11)
He gave us grace through faith that saved us but continues to to grow us in other graces too. Graces that give us assurance.
10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
Use your gifts to serve one another (1Pt4:10-11)
Gave us graces to develop graces to have assurance. He gave us gifts too, to be used to serve one another.
10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Question: Look, look closely at (1Pt4:10-11) what are we to do with the special gift(s) given?
We are to employ it by using it (v.10)
We serve under Gods supplied strength.(v.11)
So that God maybe glorified through Jesus Christ. (v.11)
Serve by sharing the greatest gift, the gospel (Rom1:16)
Paul says he is a debtor to the gospel; he is ready to preach the gospel, he goes on to say
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Are you dead in your trespasses, separated from God due to your sins? Do you believe Jesus can give eternal life? Do you think Jesus is the mighty God who can save, will save if you come to Him by faith? Are you willing to surrender? Then repent and be baptized.
