And Many Believed

John 11:43–44 AV
43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
Jesus just demonstrated that He has the power over life and death
many in the crowd believed, and put their trust in Jesus as the Messiah
John 11:45 AV
45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Why wouldn't you?
The heart of man is so far gone. that unless God intervenes we will never believe.
Turn to Luke 16:19
in fact…
John 11:46 AV
46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
all these people just saw the same thing
some believed - some wanted to kill Him..

The Elite

John 11:47 AV
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
The pharisees
The religious rulers,
make sure to obey all the rules exactly
made sure all others did the same
they did not care about who ruled as long as they were left alone
The Sadducees
The political rulers
Not necessarily religious men
The State, politicians, wealthy Aristocrats
In cahoots with the Romans, always on their side
Chief Priests
The Sanhedrin
The council between the 2 groups
John 11:49 AV
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
The leader of the group was the High Priest, who paid the highest price to the Romans for the privilege
Caiaphas a mafia don
All are under the Roman rule
normally enemies of each other
their speaking to each other is very crude, putting each other down

The Plot

John 11:47–48 AV
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. 48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
We have a problem . What are we going to do with Jesus?
Did not consider the source of the miracles
did not consider the right or wrong of what He was doing
did not care whether he was, who He claimed to be; their Messiah
One thought only its Jesus or us
because if Jesus stays, there is a good possibility we will lose all we have worked for
our temple , our Nation, our positions, our lavish life styles, our leadership
John 11:49 AV
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
You all are stupid, foolish talk
The High priest was supposed to be the channel of communication between God and the people
but this High Priest had only murder in mind
John 11:50 AV
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
For the good of the people, sound familiar?
we are going to go against the law for the greater good
God would surely understand
John 11:53 AV
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
the warrant was issued
John 11:57 AV
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
an all points bulletin was issued
The real trial of Jesus has concluded, The death sentence has been delivered

The Prophecy

John 11:51 AV
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
God used this evil, self centered man to prophesy the truth
Caiaphas intent was solely looking after himself
to unjustly murder a man, for being in his way
God has used the evil deeds of men and women through out history to accomplish His will
God is not the author of evil but He will use it
The prophecy- Jesus will die for the nation
those elect in Israel
Romans 11:4–5 AV
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
At the time of Elijah God chose 7000 men who would not bow to baal
Romans 11:7 AV
7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
Romans 11:25–26 AV
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
all of Israel going into the Millennial Kingdom will be saved
But not only Israel will be saved
John 11:52 AV
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
The gentile Elect, though out the ages
The children of God - one does not become a child of God unless one is adopted, born from above, chosen by God to be His child
John 10:14–16 AV
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Jesus will die for His Sheep,
Jews and Gentiles he will bring into one fold
Jesus is the atonement for the sin of His people

The Time Is Not Yet

John 11:54 AV
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
Jesus time to give his life is the Passover
it was close but still a couple weeks away
God Has His appointed times
And will bring the events of history at it’s own time
Satan and man is working hard to bring about their agenda
but their agenda is precisely what God said would happen
and in the end God is Glorified though their hard sacrificing work
Conclusion
the people some believed, some wanted to kill Jesus
the Sanhedrin wanted to maintain their status
Caiphas wanted to kill Jesus for his own benefit
But its all God’s plan to make for Himself a Family
to Redeem, and set apart for Himself
a family to pour out His grace upon, for an eternity
a family to lavish His love upon
Are you apart of the family?
Jesus died, His blood cleanses all sin
What can wash away my sin Nothing but the blood of Jesus
