Life of Faith
Life of Faith
13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Why does bad things happen to good people?
Why does bad things happen to good people?
Have you ever asked that question? You are not alone. There is a general understanding in life that tells us doing good qualifies us, makes us worthy, makes us holy enough for a return on our investment. The bible is riddles with stories that surprises us, leaving us saying how can this be?
Good Enough
Good Enough
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Who wants to live forever?
Life is Hard
Life is Hard
Life is measured
++Economic Opportunity
++Wealth Accumulation
++Family Stability
++Health factors
These indicators have been used to explain the rise is suicides in the U.S.

In all life there is
++Instinctive desire to exist
++An understanding of life’s limits
++Fear of death
++To prolong life
His question
++Qualifies Jesus as good
++Positions Jesus as master
++Links good action with good outcomes
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Jesus corrects his understanding
Jesus corrects his understanding
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
No one is good but God
No one is good but God
The goodness of God
++Is often overlooked
++Is often misdirected
We easily connect what he does to what we have done.
11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: For how should my name be polluted? And I will not give my glory unto another.
We were created
++By God
++For God
++To be a reflection of His Glory
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, And the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And gross darkness the people: But the Lord shall arise upon thee, And his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, And kings to the brightness of thy rising.
This is the life a life of faith
This is the life a life of faith
It is time to arise and shine
++Your light has come
++His glory is upon you
++In the midst us darkness
It is not
++Your light
++Your glory
++What you have done
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God is not waiting for us
++To act
++To do
God is waiting for us to believe.
God is waiting for us to believe.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Faith is not just believing
Faith is not just believing
Faith is connected to
++Knowing God
++Trusting his word
++Walking in a hope
2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Faith is connected to
Knowing God
Trusting his word
Walking in a hope
++To a promise
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Now faith is
++Is present confidence
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Now faith is
Is present confidence
++Based upon God’s word
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
160 Thy word is true from the beginning: And every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
Now faith is
Is present confidence
Based upon God’s word
++The life of the just
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
We will never find justification
++In what we do
++What we have done
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
When we know God
++His kindness
++His love
God’s Grace is revealed
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
