For many people 2020 has pretty much been like walking on legos barefooted through a dark room.
Last fall when Jesus was talking with me about our word and focus for the year being “Next”
God’s Next Will Mess With Your Now
I never thought it would be in the context of… “Oh Great What’s Next?!?!?!”
Isaiah 42:9–10 NLT
Everything I prophesied has come true, and now I will prophesy again. I will tell you the future before it happens.” Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing his praises from the ends of the earth! Sing, all you who sail the seas, all you who live in distant coastlands.
What is Isaiah talking about? At this point....
-Judgement has been dealt to Israel for their unfaithfulness to God
-They are captives of Babylon
-Their cities are in ruin
In these chapters from 40 forward the prophet is starting to write words of comfort and hope
In chapter 42 Isaiah starts to write about the Lord’s servant who is to come.
-he ends this chapter by saying that something new is coming and then it is followed directly by a new song of praise
-New work of God deserves a new song of praise
43 starts by telling about God as Israels savior and later starts to predict that God will send an army to over take Babylon and they will be saved again just like he did for them with Egypt.
-The Prophet then shocks everyone b saying in verse 18-19
Isaiah 43:18–19 NLT
“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
WHAT?!?!
He starts telling them about how the sacrificial system will be replaced by a sacrifice that will blot out our sins once and for all
44 then talks about the Holy Spirit falling on the people.
WOW!!!!
can you imagine the excitement....the confusion, the awe and wonder “when will this happen” and people expecting and waiting for this to be realized…but it won’t come true in the person of Jesus for about another 500 years roughly.
But God was already telling them to not look back to what God had done as the example of how he saves his people
-God is still saving
-Still working
-Still speaking
Application
As long as I have been alive I can remember hearing the older saints of the church talking about praying for God to bring the nation back to him and to his feet in dependence on him.
-Lord whatever it takes
-Lord we are willing
We are now in another season where I can see the words of Isaiah being brought back to the forefront
