Comfort O Comfort

In this life what more can we ask for, or hope for than to finish the course? But there is more isn’t there; peace? How do we find peace in this life? Isaiah say comfort, comfort my people. You may ask how can we be comforted, by knowing that the Lord has brought us to this place not to steal away but to reward for the journey of life which leads to salvation.
Isaiah 40:3 (NRSV)
3 A voice cries out:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God. A voice cries out and asks the question we all want to be comforted with, make the ways straight. We know that during the Exodus God’s people journeyed long and hard, brought on by their disobedience, but they eventually entered the promised land. A land filled with milk and honey. Patricia’s journey has been a journey not of casual travel but of travel which had hills and valleys. Everyone here has most likely journeyed through the desert with a dry and parched mouth, but Patricia today travels in the arms of the Lord.
Isaiah 40:6 (NRSV)
6 A voice says, “Cry out!”
And I said, “What shall I cry?”
All people are grass,
their constancy is like the flower of the field. We truly do not know what to say today do we? We are faced today with our own mortality and what we find is that we are like the flower, beautiful to look upon but eventually the flower fades. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. The truth of the cycle of life is never more prevalent than when we gather to say good bye to a sister, mother, grandmother, friend. What then is left for us who are left in this place?
Isaiah 40:8 (NRSV)
8 The grass withers, the flower fades;
but the word of our God will stand forever.
Revelation 21:6 (NRSV)
6 Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. For those left here today traveling life's highway, drink deeply from the cup that the Lord offers so that you may not thirst anymore. Revelation 21:5 (NRSV)
5 And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
