Jesus did not make anyone feel like a number
Everyone has a story
Matthew 4:18–20 NLT
18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.
Study shows people who choose to follow Jesus hear the gospel an average of 5.7 times before they make a decision to follow Christ
Same study shows they hear if from 3 different people

Fishing Lesson

1) The Fisher Must Be Credible

Must be knowledgeable and walk the walk
Operate from your spiritual gifts
1 Peter 1:13–16 NLT
13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

2) The Fisher Must Be Friendly

Kindness and Investment
Be motivated by a genuine love for people
1 Peter 1:22 NLT
22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.

3) The Fisher Must Be Attentive

Listen effectively to people and the Holy Spirit
Active Listening
May only get one opportunity
1 Peter 1:24–25 NLT
24 As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 25 But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.

4) The Fisher Must Be Empathetic

Sharing our faith with others, shapes our own faith
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Matthew 28:18–20 NLT
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
