Can You Hear Me Now?

Who has been driving down the the road and asked the infamous question made famous by Verizon...”Can you Hear Me Now”
I have never asked this question so much until I moved here
Make the most of my drives and call someone
Kite Hill North and Kite Hill South Lights
I’ve grown so accustom to asking this question that I now pre-warn people
I let them know that because I want them to know that it’s not that im not paying attention to them, but that i value them and want them to hang on the line with me. BE PATIENT With me for a second
2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
As we spend some time tonight in Matthew 11:20-24
We will see tonight how the Lord is asking the Question “Can You Hear Me Now”
He Demonstrates His Patience to US…as he continually asks that question.
Matthew 11:20-24
20 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

1. The Lord Will Use Wonderfull Works To Help Us Hear Him

Jesus makes a comparison between two sets of Cities
3 that were Jewish Cities and 3 that were Gentile cities
The Three Jewish
Chorazin
~2 miles north of Capernaum
Well Known for it’s wheat production
A place where Jesus did many might works (V:21)
Bethsaida: (House of Fishing- Fishing capital of the region)
It was a prosperous place
North shore of Galilee
Home to Andrew, Philip and Peter
These are some of Jesus closest disciples
Jesus sent the disciples to Bethsaida in the boat, when he walked on water (Mark 6:45)
Healed a blind man in Bethsaida
Mark 8:22
Jesus feeds the 5,000 (10k-15k People)
Just outside the city of Bethsaida
Luke 9:10-17
Capernaum
North shore of Galilee
It was base of Ministry for Jesus
Jesus taught in the synagogue and then casts out a demonic spirit out of a man (Mark 1:21-28)
They were astonished by His teaching
Mark 1:22- “For He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes”
They saw that He was different and set apart from the teachers of the day.
Casts out a demonic spirit out of a man
Mark 1:25 & 26-
Mark 1:27-28
27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” 28 And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.
Fame: Akoe- News; Pay attention to, Hearing
The entire region had heard the news
The entire region was paying attention to what Jesus was doing
Everyone was hearing about the Jesus
Romans 2:4
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
As Jesus is speaking to the crowd, He is reminding them of the wonderful works that he has done in these magnificent cities.

God doesn’t want to be famous in the hearts and minds of faithless people, He desires to be the everything of faith-filled people

What are the wonderful works that you have seen God Do?
If you do know Jesus
He is trying to get your attention
If you Don’t know Jesus...

2. The Lord Will Use Woeful Warnings To Help Us Hear Him

Matthew 11:21
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Woe: It’s a warning of Impending Judgement
Tyre and Sidon
Most Powerful city-states in Phoenicia (Northwest of Israel)
On the Mediterranean
Famous for Shipbuilding and navigating the seas

The Lord Declared Judgement on Tyre after it’s destruction of Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 26:3-4
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up. And they shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers; I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock.
Jonah 3:1–10
1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent. 4 And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. 6 Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish? 10 Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.

3. The Lord Wills That We Are Transformed To Worship Him

Hosea 6:6
I desire Mercy and not sacrifice and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
2 Chron 7:14
14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
This begins with us?
