Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
INTRODUCTION:
There are many dangers of hardening your heart.
Here are some of the reasons you need to listen and act on the warning of the word of God.
THE PROVOCATION
They resent the office of the high priest, position, power They rejected the authority of those over them.
They rebelled against the leadership of those in charge
THE PROCESS OF INFORMATION CAUSED THEM TO HARDEN THEIR HEART
God reveals His will for your life.
People reject this information.
People respond to there will instead of God's will.
POSTPONING YOUR DECISION HARDENS YOUR HEART
Put off what you know you should do.
Plan to turn back instead of going forward.
Pull others with you away from God.
PREACHING OF THE WORD TOTALLY IGNORED
Refuse to like the preaching of the word.
Refuse to listen through the preaching.
Or to be led to obey the preaching
PLEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT RESENTED
Wooing—Trying to gain or bring about your salvation
Withdraw from reproving anymore Wishing He would leave you alone
POWER OF THE GOSPEL UNTO SALVATION REJECTED
Unbelief in Christ, Church, Christian Faith Undecided about what you want to do with your life Unwilling to make any changes
PASSING UP ONE OPPORTUNITY AFTER THE OTHER
Prov. 1:24 Waited too late to trust Christ Ways of sin kept you turning to Christ Will of God for your salvation is now.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
