Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes;
and I will keep it to the end.
statutes-instructions prescribed like a doctor-emphasis on the healing ways of the Lord. The commandments of the Lord are portrayed as a prescription one receives from the doctor when one finally admits that they are sick enough to go the appointment. The Psalmist is in effect saying, “Just tell me what I need to do to be well.” Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me...what do I need to do to be saved?
The Greek interpretation of the understanding, observing, etc. is in the nous, the mind that perceives, the inner man, the heart.
