AG: Dionne Warwick
What the world needs now is love sweet love, It*s the only thing that there*s just too little of. What the world needs now is love sweet love, No not just for some but for everyone.
The World needs much more than love. Well, that isn’t right. We need real love… for God is Love. We need God. What our world needs most is the gospel.
TS: CH 15 is the most extensive treatment of the resurrection in the Bible. Both Christ’s and our own.
Here in 1-11, Paul begins his teaching by reviewing the gospel and evidences of Jesus’ resurrection.
RS: The gospel is the most important message from all history. It is clear that we need it to change our world. The gospel is the real solution to what troubles our world. We are surrounded by the effect of sin in us and others.

The Importance of the Gospel

1 Corinthians 15:1–2 ESV
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
Paul opens this passage by giving the reason he is spending time going over this.
Paul reminds us of the one and only gospel.
He reminded them because there was no other gospel.
His letter to the Galatians spells this out in great detail.
The impact of the gospel:
He had proclaimed it to them
as the missionary church planter, several Corinthians had heard the gospel for first time when he proclaimed it.
Received
They received it and responded
They repented and believed in Jesus
Stand
By the gospel we stand
We stand on the foundation of the gospel
Once saved, we stand upon the foundation of Jesus
Being Saved
We are continuously being delivered by Jesus through the gospel
It continues to work and keep us saved

The Heart of the Gospel

Christ Died for our Sins
1 Corinthians 15:3 ESV
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
He paid the price for atonement
Sin’s penalty is death and the penalty had to be paid.
Every OT sacrifice graphically demonstrated this.
Death is a universal condition due to sin being universal
Sadly, every sacrifice was inadequate
As much as we love our pets, an animal’s life doesn’t equal a human’s.
Therefore, one animal can’t pay for all sin.
They can’t choose right from wrong, they live on instinct.
Christ, on the other hand, is God.
HE is perfect
He had no sin
1 Peter 2:21–24 ESV
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
His death covered our sins and reconciled us to God

The Seal of the Gospel

Christ Rose
1 Corinthians 15:4–8 ESV
that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
At least five times Jesus said that He would rise from the grave and that is exactly what He did.
In our text Paul states that the Resurrected Christ was seen by Peter, Paul, The rest of the Apostles and over 500 witnesses. .
“I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me. How? Because 12 men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it. Everyone was beaten, tortured, stoned and put in prison. They would not have endured that if it weren't true. Watergate embroiled 12 of the most powerful men in the world-and they couldn't keep a lie for three weeks. You're telling me 12 apostles could keep a lie for 40 years? Absolutely impossible.” ? Charles W. Colson.

The Application of the Gospel

You Believed
1 Corinthians 15:9–11 ESV
For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
We all need the gospel
Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
We are saved by God’s grace, just like Paul
Like Paul, we can say by the grace of God, I am what I am
As wonderful as the gospel is, it is worthless if you don’t apply it.
Every man and woman will stand in judgment before God’s throne.
There is only one advocate who can possibly stand with you and make a difference: Jesus Christ.
He is our advocate:
He defends all who have repented and trusted Him for salvation.
Jesus Himself made it clear:
John 3:16–18 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Have you believed yet?
