Living Recently Deceased
Remember “BeetleJuice” movie
Handbook of the recently deceased -
It has made me think about how we are to live
There should be a difference in the way we live
Definition of self-indulgence
Definition of self-indulgence
: excessive or unrestrained gratification of one's own appetites, desires, or whims
We are called to live a life of surrender:
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Let God have your life; He can do more with it than you can.
- Dwight L. Moody
Turn to Luke 9
Living Surrendered
Surrender is a daily habit
Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Living Surrendered
This is about being a disciple
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Eight: A Many-Sided Ministry (Luke 9)
A disciple is more than a student who learns lessons by means of lectures and books. He is one who learns by living and working with his teacher in a daily “hands on” experience.
Daily we choose - My way or God’s way
We a re called to die (the cross) to our way
We are called to have lives that identify Christ
Living Surrendered
2. We find our life when we lose it in Christ
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will save it.
Living Surrendered
This seems crazy - if I lose I find?
We are talking about fullness and meaning
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
Living Surrendered
3. A surrendered life boldly points to Christ
For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and that of the Father and the holy angels.
Living Surrendered
Your life will either point to yourself - and it will be lost
Your life will point to Christ - eternal impact
Getting a New Perspective
Identify the value of things
More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ
Getting a New Perspective
Knowing is the relationship with Christ
What is most important? What are you focused on?
Who has done more? Given more?
In the light of Christ - everything else is just smoke and mirrors
Getting a New Perspective
2. The goal is to be like Christ
My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death,
Getting a New Perspective
We all know and like
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
The goal of faith is
For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
That means power and suffering
But it also means eternity of fulfillment
A life that mattered

Living Recently Deceased
We live in a world that says you are random and you really cannot make a difference
I know a God who says - you are My masterpiece and your life is meant for so much more if you will trust
God always has and always will look for men and women who say to Him, 'I trust you so much, I'm all in. I want your way not mine. I am willing to live by faith!'
- Chip Ingram
What do you have that is more valuable than what Christ offers?
It comes with surrender
