It’s MONDAY the 31st, the last day of August
Welcome back to the verse by verse study of the gospel of John
Last Thursday right here at “The Message” we heard about the author’s purpose when he wrote his Gospel— from his statement of purpose we learned two things:
I WILL USE THE BOOK OF JOHN TO HELP OTHERS BELIEVE
I WILL SHARE MY TESTIMONY THAT LED ME TO BELIEVE IN JESUS
Today we will begin with the last chapter 21 of the Gospel of John— the first miracle that Jesus did after rising from the grave— hopefully we will finish the Gospel of John tomorrow [September 1]. We will take it easy this week, sort of like mini break kinda— we will start with a new verse by verse study on Monday September 7
After finishing the Gospel of John hopefully tomorrow— I’d like to talk to you about the vision that God gave to Agape— A vision that is now our mission.. I wish to show you what we see going forward, and to help you visualize that, I am inviting a guest to share his best practices producing food within his front and back yard— his house is surrounded with vegetables and livestocks
Meanwhile, open your Bible to JOHN 21:1-14— Once you get there, type “I’m ready for some miracles!”
CHARACTER OF GOD, SIN TO CONFESS, PROMISES TO CLAIM, ATTITUDE TO CHANGE, COMMANDS TO KEEP, EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW, PRAYERS TO PRAY, ERRORS TO AVOID, TRUTH TO BELIEVE, SOMETHING TO THANK GOD FOR
Read JOHN 21:1-14

1 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. 6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. 7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards. 9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
So what was going on here?
WHAT: The first miracle Jesus did after rising from the dead
WHERE: By the Sea of Galilee
WHEN: One early morning
WHO: Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, John & James [sons of Zebedee], and two other unnamed disciples
WHY: To encourage his disciples— because they went back to their original occupation

BUT THAT NIGHT THEY CAUGHT NOTHING
After a whole night of toiling by themselves— they caught nothing
Early in the morning— Jesus stood on the shore but they did not realized that it was him
Jesus called out to them and said..
FRIENDS, HAVEN’T YOU ANY FISH?
Notice how Jesus called his disciples— he called them “friend” — No! They answered
Jesus said— throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some
WHEN THEY DID, THEY WERE UNABLE TO HAUL THE NET IN
Because of the large number of fish
They did not asked anything— no complaints— they simply obeyed as the Lord told them
AS SOON AS SIMON PETER HEARD HIM SAY, IT IS THE LORD
He was so excited to get to him that Peter jumped out of the boat and into the water
IT WAS FULL OF LARGE FISH, 153, BUT EVEN SO MANY THE NET WAS NOT TORN
Why do they have to count the number of fish they caught? — they counted their blessings!
Interestingly, despite of the abundance, their net did not break!— Jesus knows how much blessing you can hold!
JESUS SAID TO THEM, COME AND HAVE BREAKFAST
Nobody dared to asked him who he was because they knew it was the Lord Jesus
Then Jesus passed out the fish and the bread
THIS WAS NOW THE THIRD TIME JESUS APPEARED TO HIS DISCIPLES
Make no mistake, this was the third time that he appeared to them as a group— The night of the day he resurrected, a week later, and this time
Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene first prior to his disciples
I see a couple of things from this event— things that we can live by
